Hopefully this season won't be as frustating for us and Hamed himself, and he can get some decent playing time this season!

I read somewhere on the Grizzlies boards that Hamed is a smoker. He has earlier been spotted smoking cigarettes (and drinking a lot) at partys, and as far as that go it's OK, but apparently he does it elsewhere as well. Can anybody confirm if this is true?

If it's true I have to say I'm disappointed in him for not taking care of his body like a proffessional athlete. It might explain why he always gets so tired after a copule of minutes on the floor.

they all drink and smoke occasionally or socially but its about limiting yourself and taking care of your body, true. Personally i saw him in LA a handful of times, never seen him smoke or drink. Once recently i saw him at a hooka joint with that armenian dude from the national team, they both didnt smoke hooka, they were just drinking tea and desserts.

overall i think it should also be the team and trainers telling him how to take care of his body and build muscle, etc....i notice everyone talks about him being skinny and how he should bulk up, well if the team thinks that why dont they just tell him? or put him on a program to bulk up? isnt that what trainers and coaches are for in a pro sports club?

If you are not a star/starter nobody gives a shit about you, that's how I see it is in the NBA. It's up to the players to address their weaker points nobody is gonna do that for you. He probably has been told about his weak aspects of the game but he has not yet done anything about it. Same thing is true in football, a bench warmer gotta do everything himself and work his ass off to get a starting spot.

actually i was thinking the same...since he's not seen as an important player, they dont put much focus on him so its up to him to do it

Also, he seems to (still) have some problems communicating with the coaches. This is an abstract from the observations made on day 2 of the training camp (being before the game against Real Madrid):

The Grizzlies continued to perform offensive and defensive drills this morning with an emphasis on conditioning as well. They also took to the court to scrimmage for the first time.
White team: Mike Conley, Tony Allen, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Marc Gasol.
Blue team: Jerryd Bayless, Wayne Ellington, Quincy Pondexter, Marreese Speights and Hamed Haddadi.

The Griz played two scrimmages that lasted five minutes each.
Rotation watch: Griz coach Lionel Hollins made the lineup rotations, and put Bayless and Conley in the backcourt together. That wasn't particularly dynamic, yielding mixed results. Speights also switched to the White team to team up with Gasol. Nothing new.
Haddadi eventually was rotated off the court when Hollins bounced him from the Blue team for not knowing the play calls.

pretty good performance by hamed yesterday against bulls

                  12 min, 5 pts, 2 rebs, 2 assist, 1 steal....but still 4 turnovers

I see the point in where the grizz should be more demanding if they want him to bulk up, but he should be taking advantage of playing in the nba if he wants to up his game. If he is satisfied, that is a different story

He has bulked up A LOT since he's been in the league, but you're right they need to make sure he doesn't stop he still has to get a bit bigger. And TBH hamed's only real flaw (which is indeed a big deal) is his turnovers and his dizziness. It's so annoying that those small little things that are really big deals are stopping him from getting PT on a consistent basis. His game isn't bad at all we saw that against the lakers last year and at other times too.

                        Though his stats look okay, he didn't play good against Chicago according to those hanging on the Grizzlies boards who saw the game. Apparently, the rookie center Jerome Jordan had an impressive game;

                        http://boards.grizzliesonline.com/in...c=14353&st=120

Here are most of the mentionings about HH:

                        Wow, Haddadi sucks.
Jerome Jordan could be serviceable. Hadadi wasn't really That great tonite. Ellington is a good shooter.
I'm starting the Jerome Jordan bandwagon immediately!
I'm right there with you... he played a heck of a lot better than Haddadi. Of course I want to see how he keeps it up over the course of the preseason, but if he keeps performing like he did tonight, I'd seriously consider giving him a look for the season.
Yes honestly I know it's just one preseason game but I like his play better than hameds already. Hamed is a good 3rd string center but his lack of motor really hurts him. Jordan would be nice playing alongside speights because he is more of a rim protector and is athletic enough to play faster paced.
I liked Jerome Jordan also. Those dunks in the paint late in the game would have been fumbles and/or missed layups by Haddadi - or best case, getting fouled and going to the line to make one of two.
I get the idea behind Haddadi. He's a big body and can be useful in certain situations or matchups. But it's been 4 years now. I think 3 was enough. The guy is not a project. He can't assume true backup center duties (e.g,. starting in case Marc is hurt). And he's taking up space on the team that could be used for a useful/reliable role player. We should have gone in different direction.
Haddadi looked really bad, he had some nice plays, but the rest of the time he looked completely out of sync. A part of me wants to think that it's just the rust still wearing of, another part is telling me that this is the Haddadi we usually see.

He really hasnt shown any improvement since coming into the league. We (his fans) seem to care about his career more than he does. But hey he's a millionaire getting getting paid to hang out on the bench so good for him. Why give more effort?

Yeah, you are probably right. Indeed I think they are a little bit harsh on him.

On the other hand, one particular Iranian member on that board regularly keeps opening threads about the greatness of HH, how he is being mistreated due to Hollins being a racist, calling Gasol overrated in comparison with HH by comparing their respective collections of trophies at international level (in other words he equals trophies gathered in Asia with those in Europe/Olympics/WC), etc. He blames everyone but Hamed himself, and that will eventually have a tiresome effect on the other members, who will start looking for faults in everything Hamed does to prove that this guy's arguments are invalid. I see what this guy is trying to do (I want to see HH play as well and think he fully deserves to play more than he does), but it doesn't help HH's image at all when he brings up lame arguments.

Well, at least the fans in the Fedex Forum still cheer for him whenever he plays.
