    Wolfsburg sack Magath

    25 October 2012

Felix Magath's second stint at Wolfsburg has come to an end after leaving the club on Thursday.
Wolfsburg lie bottom of the Bundesliga table and after four consecutive league losses, chairman Dr Francisco Garcia-Sanz has decided to look elsewhere for a head coach.

Lorenz-Gunther ***tner will be in charge of the team temporarily until a suitable replacement is found to take the helm at the Volkswagen Arena.

"Felix Magath took the first step in explaining to the board of directors that the club has a predominant place in his heart," a statement on the club's website reads.

"He therefore offered to be relieved of his duties since he did not want the club to suffer.

"The board regrets that this situation has arisen, although both parties had tried everything in recent weeks to be successful.

The statement continued: "We want to express our thanks to Felix Magath explicitly.

"He has during his two terms with Wolfsburg showed tremendous commitment and great achievement for our club, the city of Wolfsburg and the sport in the region.

"The focus now is on the upcoming games, and to as soon as possible progress to the middle of the league."

Magath led Wolfsburg to the Bundesliga title in 2009.

The club have just five points from their opening eight games of the current campaign ahead of Saturday's clash with Fortuna Dusseldorf.
