^ At the end of the day he was their leader, motivator, and turned those small players into big super stars. Of course Guardiola having to thank Rijkaard for inheriting a great squad but he still took out Deco, Ronaldinho, Zambrotta, Thuram, Gudjohnsen close to his arrival and replaced them with the very reserves he coached for a year or so. When Pep took over Barca they were a mess and he got rid of those players in order to build the team we see today.
Compare that to Mourinho at Inter, a team full of random players, lots of them brought into the club by Mourinho. He got one great season out of them where most players were easily motivated because they were basically kicked out of their old clubs and wanted to prove how good they are. The next season the club was a mess, all the egos wanted to be stars more than work for the club. Mourinho left and no one was around to manage these guys. That would never happen with a manager like Guardiola or Ferguson because these coaches having long term projects to build teams. a team like Manchester United needs a coach for long term stay, of course we will never find another Fergie but I truly believe Pep would be a great replacement.
