Frank Lampard to LA Galaxy a 'done deal'

    http://sports.yahoo.com/news/source-...0646--spt.html

Less than two months after David Beckham's departure, the LA Galaxy have found their star replacement.

Frank Lampard has agreed to join the LA Galaxy, a source close to the Chelsea midfielder told Goal.com.

"It's all but done," the source said.

A team spokesman would not confirm or deny the rumor, only telling Goal.com that head coach Bruce Arena publicly acknowledged interest in Lampard on Thursday.

Lampard will likely join Los Angeles on a free transfer after Chelsea's season finishes in June.

Though Kaka was originally Los Angeles' top target, as reported by SI.com in December, the club switched directions once that became unfeasible. With Lampard considering offers from multiple suitors, including teams from the Premier League, Los Angeles decided to aggressively recruit its next star. Lampard might not be the celebrity that Beckham or Kaka is, but he marries significant popularity with plenty of industry.

Despite aging 34-year-old legs, Lampard has been one of Chelsea's leading scorers this season with seven goals in 14 appearances. In fact, Lampard is arguably the greatest scoring central midfielder in Premier League history, notching 194 goals in 584 appearances in England.

During Chelsea's tour in North America last summer, Lampard expressed an interest in playing in MLS but admitted that he would wait to see if Chelsea would extend his contract first.

"I am not sure [about a future in MLS]," Lampard said. "I have another year on my contract at Chelsea and we have a big season ahead of us with the Super Cup and the Club World Cup in December. It's up to Chelsea to speak with me about my future and, at that time, I'll speak with them.

"I wouldn't rule anything out at the moment."

Galaxy head coach Bruce Arena acknowledged after the MLS SuperDraft on Thursday that there would be an update on the team's third Designated Player next week.

"I wouldn't be surprised if over the next week or so we're going to have some kind of decision we're going to make with a Designated Player," Arena told reporters in Indianapolis. "We wouldn't rule that out. It's always a possibility."

that would be so depressing, lampard is still performing at EPL level and at his current market value he is a STEAL for any club to buy.

Azizam what you are saying is incorrect. How can you compare the 2 leagues skill wise? First and for all Beckham alone in MLS = More skill then all of IPL.

Also MLS generally focuses much more on players speed and fitness, while in Iran games usually lose pace midway through the second-half, lol.

Di Matteo recommends Lazio to Lampard

                      25 January 2013

Former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo has advised Frank Lampard to join Lazio when his contract expires at Stamford Bridge.
Di Matteo spent three years of his own playing career at the Stadio Olimpico with Lazio and believes it would be a good move for both Lampard and the Italian club.

The veteran midfielder's Chelsea deal expires at the end of the 2012/13 campaign and it appears unlikely he will be offered an extension, despite fellow stalwart Ashley Cole signing on for a further season.

"Lampard is a great player and a great professional, so I am certain he can play at least another two years at the top level," Di Matteo told Sky Sport Italia.

"I don't know if he will join Lazio or not, but it would certainly be a good move for both parties. We often talk and I gave him my opinion. At the end of the day he will make the decision."

Di Matteo was sacked from the Chelsea hot-seat earlier this season despite winning the club's only Champions League trophy just months prior to his dismissal, and said he was glad to hear fans chanting his name after his departure.

"It was an incredibly emotional experience and a very difficult achievement. I had three fantastic months on the Chelsea bench, but also tough, as we worked up to 18 hours a day to achieve our results," he said.

"I was pleased to hear the fans cheer my name after I left. It was love at first sight with the supporters the moment I arrived in London and I'm sure that love will continue over the years.

"Have I had any contact with Italian clubs? I prefer not to talk about this as I have a great deal of respect for the current coaches. In any case, I don't hide that I am very happy with what Lazio are doing in Serie A."

di matteo is right...lampard would fit in lazio well. They can use his experience in the midfield and they are in the position to be in CL next year which will be huge boost if lampard is there.
