    Yu Darvish 2013 MLB Season

Its fun getting excited about Kazemi and Haddadi and that iranian guy from the senators, but the biggest Iranian sports star in the U.S. (maybe world) is Yu Darvish. Yes he is half, identifies as japanese, but he is such a badass and we need to claim him. Baseball sucks but its a lot of fun when you have some skin in the game. Watching him pitch is enthralling. He is one of the best in the game, and a lot of experts are picking him to win the AL Cy Young award (best pitcher in the league). He makes his season debut tonight vs the Astros

ps he has talked about making baseball popular in Iran, so he isnt a total sellout

might be able to watch here

Only 23 players in 144 years MLB history.

Throwing a perfect game has always been considered one of the rarest and greatest achievements of all of sports, and Darvish would have gone down in baseball history, but whats crazy is that recently there have been quite a few of them. Since 2009 there have been 6, and last season alone there were 3, which is insane. Usually several years go by between perfect games, apparently 33 years at one point. Nowadays its more newsworthy (because of the drama) to get a perfect game broken up like this on the last out. Far more people remember Armando Gallaragas perfect game being broken up than say, phil humber or dallas bradens perfect game last year, and more people will remember that last at bat tonight and Darvish's laugh (gallaraga's game was 10x more dramatic though with the umpire error). Its worth noting the 14 strikeouts Darvish got, if he had gotten the last out it would have been most all time for a perfect game. After the first 4 innings I was actually looking more at the strikeout record (20 i think) than him getting a perfect game.

The most important takeaway from this game is this: There is a lot of luck involved in perfect games. A lot of times its a fluke and the guys throwing them or come close to it can never replicate that once in a lifetime performance (gallaraga, humber, braden). But what was crazy about this is that IT WASNT DARVISH'S BEST EFFORT!! He didnt even really have his "stuff". Not saying he'll ever throw another perfect game because there is just so much luck involved in that, but this game shows he has that nolan verlander/halladay/hernandez type potential of multiple no hitter/one hitter/two hitter games. This guy is amazing. Now if we could just get him to rock a faravahar necklace

Haha if he got the perfect game it would have been the start of all these superstitions; I had his jersey in the dryer during the game, so for every start I would have put his jersey in the dryer, ordered Rudys BBQ and posted a thread about how great he is on PFDC!

The silver lining is that in class on Monday I actually called a Darvish 1 hitter tonight so I guess I have some bragging rights...man I wish I had been wrong though

i think his IRANIAN side kicked in when he was about to go down in history. lol our athletes are always like that...always a STEP away from greatness! we come very close but always miss that last part...thats my theory
