Adidas fury at Gotze wearing a Nike shirt at Bayern unveiling

New Bayern Munich signing Mario Gotze has invoked the wrath of his club's kit-makers Adidas - by turning up to his official unveiling in a Nike t-shirt.
Gotze, who arrived from Bayern's German and Champions League rivals Borussia Dortmund as Pep Guardiola's new signing, proudly held his new number 19 shirt, with a huge Nike 'swoosh' on his t-shirt.
Adidas are the long-standing sponsors of the European Champions, and even hold a 9.1 per cent stake in the club, while the sportswear giant's CEO, Herbert Hainer, is a member of Bayern's board.

Clash of brands: Mario Gotze presents his new Bayern shirt, but Adidas are unhappy at his Nike t-shirt

Another gaffe: Although not visible in this picture, Jan ***chhoff's shirt also carried Nike's 'swoosh' (below)

Gotze can wear Nike boots as per his sponsorship deal, but for official presentations like his unveiling must wear an adidas Bayern shirt.
The other player to be announced to the press was Mainz defender Jan ***chhoff - and his t-shirt was also from boot sponsors Nike.
***chhoff sported a grey t-shirt with a 'Go Like Hell' slogan, with the Nike emblem underneath.

I remember Nike doing this before, during C. Ronaldo's unveiling at Real Madrid. I guess this is a Nike corporate tactic to undermine Adidas.

Still very unprofessional from both players. Adidas should fine them both

yea exactly....stupid move by the player and the management. Business 101; learn about politics

there are ALOT of things i have to be careful with when i write emails, issue quotes, do contracts, etc at my job.... half the job is making sure u pay attention to these details. yet such a huge organization like bayern let this just slip through LOL

and whats with a crappy t shirt at your unveiling? wear something casual but a little stylish and decent. Looks like something u wear at home.

It's ridiculous how brands can dictate what a player can and cannot wear.

But at the same time it's obvious what Gtoze/Nike was trying to do.

His intention is very simple. To sell more Nike products.

                              simple Nike vs. Adidas beef

"The Adidas/Nike feud is reaching epic proportions. Nike has been furious that Adidas was able to sway Marcelo and Ozil to their brands (abandoning Nike) even to the point that they were suing Ozil for using Adidas boots when Nike could still negotiate with him. They ended up making him wear plain Adidas boots so the brand was not visible. Also, they prohibited Brazil from training with the Confederations ball due to the fact it was Adidas. This supposedly infuriated the Brazilian FA since they would be at a disadvantage from other teams (they supposedly ended up practicing with the ball but no cameras were allowed). In the end Adidas will end up convincing Gotze that as a German at Bayern he is better off signing with them.
An uncle of a friend works at a prominent position in Nike's PR department and he was telling me this presentation stunt has been carried out successfully many times when Adidas sponsored teams acquire Nike sponsored players. Supposedly, (not coming from the same PR person) Nike is still upset Adidas took Messi from under them. They feel Adidas has recently taken too many of their star players and felt they had to retaliate. That is why the aggressively sought after the German and French NT as their contracts with Adidas were ending. They were successful in taking France away but Germany proved to be too hard."
