    Our roster:

    FS:

    55kg: Hassan Rahimi
    60kg: Masoud Esmailpour
    66kg: Mehdi Taghavi
    74kg: Ezatollah Akbari
    84kg: Ehsan Lashgari

    GR:

    55kg: Mohammad Faghiri
    60kg: Mohammad Nourbaksh
    66kg: Afshin Biabangard
    74kg: Hadi Alizadeh
    84kg: Taleb Nematpour
    96kg: Mahdi Aliyari
    120kg: Amir Aliakbari

In freestyle we have pretty much the same team from the Olympics, except for Sadegh Goudarzi in 74 who missed the national trials this year.

In Greco-Roman, we don't have one single wrestler from last years Olympics ! All of them didn't compete this year for different reasons but mainly because of problems with the federation and Mohammad Bana resigning.. The new coach is Abdollah Chamangoli, also interesting this year we have Amir Aliakbari in 120kg, he was the 2010 world champion in 96kg but he was suspended for 2 years in 2011 for doping and he returned this year and showed some good results, he is one of our best medal hopes in GR.

In case you didn't know about some of the rule changes:

    - Matches are now 2 periods 3 minutes each, also they are using cumulative scoring now, so you win with a final score and not by periods
    - Takedowns are now worth 2 points, unless it's a defensive takedown which is 1 point
    - Push outs are worth 1 point
    - If you perform two 3 point throws or a 5 point throw the match ends and you win, unless your opponent is still leading after the throws.
    - 7 point technical falls, meaning if you lead 7-0 or by 7 points the match ends and you win.
    - Referee's now give cautions to wrestlers who are passive and not creating action
    - (FS) The referee will warn the passive wrestler, If there is no score 2 minutes into the match, the referee decides who is the most passive wrestler and he's given 30 seconds to score, if he doesn't score, he is given a caution and a point to his opponent.
    - (GR) The referee will warn the passive wrestler, if he carries on being passive, he receives a caution and point to his opponent and his opponent gets to decide between the par-terre position or carry on standing up.
    - If a wrestler receives 3 cautions, he is Disqualified

Thanks for the post! Going to the championship for the 2 first day (freestyle) should be fun. Very anxious to see how the boys will do considering the poor economic conditions they have had to endure the last year... see this clip:

Thanks for the post shogun. We have several studs on our freestyle team but like you said our greco team is a bunch of new guys. Are any of them contenders for medals apart from Aliakbari? We would dominate these championships in both FS and GR if we had our GR studs like Sourian, Nourozi and Rezaei.

On the rule changes, I know they want to make the game more exciting in order to ensure it goes back to being one of the core sports in the olympics but i feel apprehensive about the pass warning/point deduction rule. I can totally see Iranian wrestlers getting screwed due to political reasons due to the unfair/prejudicial use of that rule.

The draws for 55,66 and 96 have been made, Taghavi and Rahimi have tough draws, Yazdani avoided most of the other favourites, he should make the final without much problems.

FILA will be streaming the competition and will have 4 different cameras for each mat, here is the link for the stream http://fila-official.com/sites/ultim...mid=83&lang=en

The competition will start at 13:00 local time, also here is the competition's official website which should also be streaming. http://www.wrestling2013.com/en/

Like "Irann" said probably Nematpour in 84kg, also Mahdi Aliyari in 96kg looked good at the recent universiade but I would pick Aliakbari and Nematpour as our main medal hopes in Greco.

Yes the new rule changes give a lot of power to referees but still i prefer them to the old rules.

You're right he's not, in recent pics he looks smaller and I think he probably still has problems with his knee but look at his side of the draw. I think even at 60% he should be able to beat those guys. (I hope I'm not wrong)

I really believe that we can bring home Iran's 5th Freestyle World Championship.

                        @ Shogun Rua

1, Reza Yazdani was absent for quiet sometime in FS 96kgs, and I thought Hamed Tatari did very well at the Team World Cup in Tehran earlier this year!
How come Khadem chose Yazdani over Tatari? How is Yazdani's form? Has he done well in national trials?
I am a big fan of Yazdani, but after I saw Tatari's good performance, and Yazdani's long absence, I am a lil bit surprised. Pls shed some Shogun-Ruan lights on this!

2, Too bad Sourian is not competing, if he would, and I am sure he would win Gold in Greco 55 kgs, then he would break Abdollah Movahed's FS record of 5 World Championship Gold Medals... and Sourian is still 28 years old... too bad.
I am extremely sad about Mohammad Bana's resigning due to his dissatisfaction with the Federation for breaking promises and not awarding the wrestlers with what they have been promised before the Olympics..... I wished there would be a chance we would havee the likes of Sourian, Abdevali, Norouzi, and Rezaei back in Greco....
How are these new Greco Wrestlers?

3, what if there is still a draw after 2nd period?

thanks in advance, and please when you answer, answer in a way that I can play with my Sibil with enjoyment of Shogun-Ruian knowledge.

                        Feeteeleh Peecheengly yours,
                        Adesor Derakht Kaan
