Iran at the 2013 Asian Men's Volleyball Championship

Surprised no one has talked about this. It is taking place in Dubai.
Iran has made it into the QF and will play on Friday against Lebanon.

Last game was against South Korea and they beat them 3-1.

Winner of the tournament qualifies for the 2013 World Grand Champions Cup (Volleyball version of Confederations Cup).

Iran won the semifinal against Japan 3-0. Iran is now in the final against China or South Korea.



As you can see we've always have had problems with China. We lost last time we played them which was 1 year ago. So based on the stats we've have better chances against South Korea in the final. I'm proud of our boys!

It was our B team in Asian Cup (a secondary tournament), they beat China A in preliminary round and lost narrowly in the final match. still a very good result for a "B team". Our A team was busy in World League qualification matches at the time.

from 2008 we lost only one match to China in World Cup in Japan back in 2011.

These guys have been achieving everything our football has failed to do. It's a total delight to watch them play, I watched the entire match against Japan and was real impressed by our boys. Kudos to Velasco!

the only team in this tournament that gave us problems was Korea, we have to come out and destroy the hell out of them!!

Great win by Iran. This is all prep for Rio 2016. This will also give them the Chance to play the best of the best in the grand champions Cup.

Congratulation for our boys. It's sad that they don't get as much attention as they deserve! They are true heroes with a beautiful World League and a perfect Asian Championship. Now they have secured a spot for the Gran Championship Cup, which is for the winners of all continents + the host. It will start on 24th of November in Japan. They will meet, USA, Russia, Brazil + Wildcard + Host (Japan):
