Who remembers Thon's penalty kick in the shootout against England in the 1990 World Cup semifinals? I have never seen a pk taken like this. He completely fooled Shilton but did so in his run up and switched before he actually took the shot. He did such a good job of fooling Shilton that even though he made it absolutely obvious he was now going in the opposite direction and it was quite clear Shilton noticed it as well but Shilton was so committed to the other side that he was unable to stop it even though he tried to go in that direction as it was quite late. I had every single game of the 1990 World Cup recorded and had watched this scene probably 50 times. Every single time you will swear Thon is gonna shoot one way and then 1 second before he shoots you know he's shooting the other way. As he makes the switch you can even see him laughing, knowing that he pulled it off perfectly.
I'm trying to find a clip of it, particularly one that shows it from behind the goal which will show the deceit in Thon's run and him laughing. So far this is the best I could find although you can't see the facial expressions in it:
