Sweet. Five athletes... that's a new record in the number of athletes that we send to the Winter Games.

They are not medal hopefuls, but if they at least do better than their personal bests that is good in itself.

That is what I call setting the bar low. For a country of 80 million with 3000 years of history, it is a shame Iran has not even once landed a medal at a winter Olympics. We could have trained some athletes for events such as biathlon or curling. Having said that, I realize for all of our smarts, we have never had a scientist win a Nobel Prize either. There really is a problem and I am not sure what a cure is and how it can be implemented.

When they came out to march, I was really hoping the announcer(s) would somehow stop mentioning the Islamic Republic designation, but I was disappointed. By the way, I think the Portuguese are worse than us in terms of participation in the winter Olympics, as well as in medal counts when it comes to the summer games. The only sport the Portuguese seem to be good at is soccer. It's really a matter of wanting to achieve a goal and working hard for it.
