Iran beat US 5-3 but it wasn't very convincing.
I was very, very disappointed at Lashgari who typically gets my praise. He had so many single legs he didn't do anything with. The judging was kind of suspect, I thought he got robbed of some points in the first half. But still no excuse for him to lose to Foster. He missed too many opportunities with points right there for him to get.
Rahimi and Yazdani were world class as always. Yazdani in particular is truly a once in a generation wrestler. He is is so calm and collected. He takes singles at will and turns them into 2 easy points all day, every day.
Nasiri threw away his match. He was up big but let it slip away. He started off very well going up 4-0 instantly, too bad he showed his lack of poise and let the win slip away.
Hosseinkhani did a solid job. Ghasemi did a solid job again on Dlagnev.
Akbari tired but Borroughs is simply too good and is better than him. Akbari is way too defensive against Borroughs which makes no sense because it is hard to score on Borroughs but it becomes impossible if you come on the mat trying not to lose to him instead of trying to beat him. He was a bit more offensive but still wrestled way too defesnively which only delays the inevitable. Might as well go all out, if Borroughs techs you there is no shame in it but at least you give yourself a chance to win.
Over all I am happy we beat the US and as I predicted it ended 5-3. Should have ended 6-2 easily. Oh well, we are pretty much guaranteed to wrestle in the final and attempt to make history by wining our 3rd straight freestyle world cup title.
