Iran at the 2014 FIVB Volleyball World League

This is probably the most prestigious tournament in international volleyball along with the Olympics.
Iran is once again in the tournament and in the toughest group (Pool A: Iran, Brazil, Poland, Italy)
Velasco is gone and Slobodan Kovac is the new head coach.
None of the teams underestimate Iran and I don't expect Iran to do very well.
Iran will be playing Italy in its first game at 1115 Tehran time (May 30th) in Italy.
The next game will also be against Italy on June 1st.

By the way for interest's sake, one of the rules for Iran to participate in this tournament in this edition was that the matches in Iran be broadcast in HD. The head of the volleyball federation said they are able to do this now. Finally!

no It comes 4th behind Olympics, World Championships and World Cup. (and also behind European Championship for Euro countries, other continental championships aren't that prestigious)

still a very prestigious tournament. but this year we will have World Championship in Poland later in August.

LOL., are you kidding ? only in Iran because of media hype someone may say World League is higher than World Championship ! we have financial prize because it's a LEAGUE. World League is home and away which means more fans in stadium, more drama, more interesting matches but it doesn't mean it's more prestigious, no way ! find a random volleyball fan in Brazil and Italy or Russia. and ask them how much they care about the World League. national teams don't play just for money. no financial prize for the Olympics but it's still much more prestigious than any other tournament.

in Olympic year, some countries participate even with their B team at the World League, check Italy and Russia roster for 2012 World League. Poland this week sent a B team to Brazil (and they lost 3-0 yesterday) because their main players were tired after playing in 2015 European Volleyball Championships. if you want I can give links for that, but I think it's not necessary.

the amount of points they give to Olympics, World Champs and World Cup is equal. and twice of World League points. for top teams World League is just a preparation tournament, they only take it very serious when it comes to Final Six.

even Iranian volleyball federation considers World Leagus as a part of preparations for World Championships and Asian Games later this year

World League is still very important, but not even close to World Championships level. if I want to rank volleyball tournaments based on prestige for volleyball community

Irannn is correct, world league is NOT the 2nd most important tournament. Obviously the Olympics are first but the world championship is definitely second. No question about it.

I missed the 1st two sets, but it looks like we got better as the match went on. Not a bad result for the 1st game and we still have a long way to go. I'm sure the boys will do better against Italy in the return match - keeping fingers crossed
