Bayern Munich defender Valerien Ismael has turned his back on a possible World Cup berth with Togo.
The African nation, who will make their World Cup debut in Germany next summer, have drawn up a list of potential new recruits - and Ismael was one of their main targets.
However, the 30-year-old Frenchman - who could have qualified through his Togo-born estranged wife - has dismissed any suggestion of a switch.
"I didn't know it was April 1st," Ismael joked.
"It is not a realistic option. I have no connection with the country and I don't need the World Cup that badly."
Ismael did admit that the only country he would consider switching his allegiance to would be Germany.
"The only nationality I might consider is German," he told Bayern Munich's official website.
"My partner is German and I want to stay in Germany after I finish playing."
