What a goal by Cahill! It makes me miss Ali Daei!

Great performance by the Aussies so far.

They have really impressed me this tourney so far. They were very unlucky to lose to Chile as well. And have had the better chance in this game so far.

Only if they had a more favourable draw, they would have had a chance to make it to the next round. Good for AFC. Australia will be a strong contender for the AC as hosts. Some very bright young players and a couple of old heads in Cahill and Bresciano

Minute 55: Australia leading Holland 2 - 1. Who would have anticipated that?

          Holland must have underestimated Australia.

Update: Holland scores in minute 57 to tie the game.

          Here is Cahill's goal: http://www.tsmplug.com/football/tim-...s-netherlands/

It was such a great left-footed volley!

This game is a template for what Iran could do against Argentina. We are dismissed like the socceroos and I hope TM is watching this game.

Australia missed an easy goal. Now, the Dutch scored.

Starting to look like a basketball game at times. Did you just see Australia's 100% chance which they missed? Holland scored on rebound in the other end.

By the way ESPN analyzer says the penalty kick should not have been awarded to Australia, since the Dutch defender's hand was in natural position when the ball hit it.

Update: With the 3-2 win vs. Australia, Holland now sit pretty on 6 points after 2 matches but still have not sealed progress to the round of 16. However, if Spain does not manage to beat Chile later today, Holland will however guarantee progress.

Australia already out with their second loss and Tim Cahill can't play in the last match due to two successive yellow cards, so in all likelihood this game was his last World Cup appearance and goal. He is 34 years old.

This is exactly what TM should not do. We cannot compete in a offensive games with the likes of Messi, Higuain, Di Maria. This game is a clear demonstration of how quickly and easily top european talent can score on asian talent.

when we watching all thses teams and how vital and brave they are playing, we see/feel how poor and dead our fooyball is/has become. Ghotbi and CQ brainwashed us and succeeded to get us to belive that we are not capable of playing football, dynamic and brave football...

Play brave football for what goal. To loose 3-2 and not go to the next round? Our goal is to get to the best of 16.

^ Iran can also raise their game level in a short span of time. It just needs a mental spark... seems to me a lot of the deal is psychological and effort-based. Did you see how South Korea came from a string of disastrous friendly results to play a great game versus Russia yesterday?

CQ should give Alex Ferguson a call right away and ask for feedback on the issue of how to play with Argentina. I doubt Ferguson would refrain from dispensing some useful ideas. He knows what Argentina's strengths and weaknesses are; a lot comes down to successfully marking Messi.

What do you mean? Up until 2-1 Australia held more than 50% possession. If the other team doesn't have the ball they cannot score. If we play the park the bus method, then it wont be Obi Mikel but the likes of Messi who you need to stop. That's a lot harder. When Australia started to defend and foul (kind of what TM did particularly Teymourian and his fouls) that gave chances to Holland, who of course took advantage and won the game.

At some point we will need to win games to stay in this WC, that's a given.
