Do your homework first. You are implying the reason Australia have lost their 2 games is because of their manager, as opposed the fact that they have faced 2 very very good teams (Who have also eliminated the reigning world champions)
And we are not hitting teams fast. We should be on paper. But we are not. Because our players are too nervous to control the ball under pressure and pass it on the counter and they just end up hoofing it , hoping for the best.
A smart counter-attacking game is nothing to be scuffed at, but defense and having ZERO PLAN or preparation to attack (or counter-attack) is just pointless.
In my opinion our entire goal scoring plan is through set pieces. Draw fouls in opposition box, and set piece. It's percentage game when you put all your attacking baskets on that, and it very very rarely pays off.
We'll find out I guess. I really wish I get proven wrong and we show more ambition and cohesion going forward in the next 2 games.

Very nice match today, I was very impressed by their strength and confidence to pressure the Dutch. I think with Argentina we need a similar tact. Push up together, while ensuring we manage counter attacks successfully.

I agree that we should play defensive, but we should also attack a little more than we did vs Nigeria (not against Argentina).
We need a damn victory to go to the second round..

People are acting like Iran had no attacking mind at all during the match. We had multiple opportunities off set pieces, corners and sparks of magic off counter attacks.

What more do you all want? Dejagah had an awful game, and he is essentially our playmaker. Iran is Iran folks.. with less European experience than anyone in our group.

0-0 is much better than bowing out 3-0 or 3-1 in the opening match of the tournament. Without the point against Nigeria, there would be no chance to advance. Iran can still pull it off against Bosnia, and possibly even a point against Argentina. Hechee maloom nist. Anything can happen in this group.

The Australian coach (and he is australian) mentioned prior to the WC that his team does not have the talent that some other teams have but he will get them so physically strong to fight for the whole 90 mins and will neutralise the talent in the other team with stamina and aussie grit.

If we were also in a group with no hope to qualify further we would have also not played that conservativaly. We would have put caution to the wind. However now that we are in with a chance we are playing to a plan to maximise our returns. That is smart play.

Iran's gameplan against Argentina is going to be defensive, but I hope Carlos Queiroz sees the importance of possession against Argentina. Argentina are the opposite of Nigeria. Whereas Nigeria is a countering team and has no idea what to do with possession, Argentina has no idea what to do without the ball. For long stretches of the match, Messi/Higuain will not be contributing to their defensive effort, that should allow us to put some passes together. Mascherano is their destroyer and is prone to receive yellows if Dejagah or Gucci can pull off a quick dribble. I think this time Dejagah should be employed on the right since Argentina's left back(Rojo) is much weaker than Zabaleta is and mistake-prone. We need Nekounam to step and take charge in the middle. Teimourian can't get a yellow in this game so Nekounam needs to step up. If Nekounam and Teimourian can link up with our wingers, we could match up to Biglia and Mascherano(their main central midfielders).

An effective defensive approach is to keep Messi as high up the pitch as possible. Messi got the ball high upfield against Bosnia and had to dribble 20+ yards to get to the box (by then he was shut down).

i am now worried we have to play tthem in AC. We can't just defend and defend in AC. This Australia team will mop the floor with Iran.
.... At the end I am nothing other than ordinary

I read this and then just stopped with the rest of the thread.

You have submitted the most ridiculous post I have read here. Clearly, there is a misunderstanding in your head about why games are played and how tournaments are won -- you play to win the game, you win to capture the glory. Glory for yourself, for your teammates, for your country.

People like you play sports for the fun, for the girls, for whatever ulterior motivation you can find. Growing up, I hated having people like you on my team. Today, when I play in local leagues, I continue to hate having people like you on my team. And at work, I dread the thought that people with your losing mentality could inhabit the same space as me.

You are the worst kind of sports fan and teammate. The one who is too selfish to understand that the purpose of a team is to win for your teammates and your fans. With a mentality like that you are a stain and a hindrance, in any endeavor you might be in.

I hope to never hear anyone -- in my career or in my sports -- to say they showed up to look good, but are okay losing. Screw off then -- the rest of us here, we're in it to win it.

                            LETS GO IRAN.

wow members here are so delusional.

Australia did what Iran has never done, which is to play shoulder to shoulder with one of the best teams in the world in the world cup.
The chasm between our football and Australia's football is now apparent to all.
The ball control, passing and finishing of Australia's display yesterday was something that Iranian football is not even capable of.

We are lucky to be grouped with the weakest team in the WC (Nigeria) and the Aussies have played 2 of the very best (Chile and Holland).

I will take my words back if we can perform anywhere close to the Australians vs Argentina
