I posted this in another thread.

I heard a funny comment by a Brazillian journalist yesterday on BBC.
He said, "priror to WC, our team promised us to make us forget the 1950 incident,... they succeeded!"

    lol

In 1950 Brazil wasn't even Brazil as we know them as a football power today..Uruguay then was kind of like Brazil today, having won the cup once already..Uruguay beating Brazil was not considered as an unbelievable major upset since Uruguay had a better stablished national team internationaly than Brazil..
No other results come any close to this one as the worst defeat of a football powerhouse,.. Maybe Netherlands drubbing of Spain could be one of the distant followers in this department

Based on the previous week of play, it was an incredibly major upset. Brazil had beat Sweden 7-1 and Spain 6-1 while Uruguay had beaten Sweden 3-2 and tied Spain 2-2. Brazil didn't even need to win, a tie would have given them the title.

Well try convincing all of Brazil's population of that. I doubt any of them would agree with you otherwise they would have gotten over it after 64 years.
Also regarding the thread topic you have to consider that in 1950 Brazil didn't just lose a game, they lost a championship that they (and most others) fully believed they would win. In 2014 Brazil lost a game they were expected to lose (although not by that score) and a championship that no one thought they would win anyway.

I bet you could travel to Brazil and find a high school team that could have played better than this team. The fact that they lost a great striker before this match showed that the coach had not tried to test his team without the striker and his goals had covered up the poor performance of the rest of the team.

In addition these playeres were demoralized. Brazil has the talent and the coach screwed up at old age and did not build the team with the best talent.
His players were running in front of the goal as chickens whose heads had just been cut off.

Furthermore, I like to say the referee in Iran Argentian screwed up and did not issue yellow or red card and the trend continued and everyone tried to chop legs and hurt others including the French until that idiot from Colombia hurt the Brazilian star (needless to say that the Brazilian goalkeeper tried the same and showed some theatrical act). I think FIFA should review the performance of referees and give them F and send them home forever and also ban a few players who tried to chop sheens in every match that they played. This year has been the ultimate level of ugliness for trying to win at any price.

Now, Just think if at the time Ali Karimi was the star of TM. If he missed a game due to injury what would happen to TM?

In spite of the embarassing result, the respect for Brazil as a nation of football cannot and should not vanish. They will recover and they will come with a better team that will have more mature and intelligent players like Tostao, Dalmao, Jejinho,
