Wow, I had no idea that the coach determines who gets sent to what tournament. Is there any pressure or movement from Asian countries to move the date of the world championships because it is too close to the AG? Maybe I am just speaking passionately because I am so sad about how dissapointing our freestyle was but I feel like every single world championship we lose out on dominating both FS and greco because our teams are never our 100% top wrestlers because many of our best do not participate for whatever reasons. Also, would you say that most wrestling powers tend to view the world championships as being more important and prestigious than continental tournaments?
Again thanks for the information you provided. I am waiting anxiously on the bracket. I hope Sooriyan can navigate the minefield that is the 59kg class. I am hoping and praying for 2 golds and 4+ medals in greco.
They tried but nothing changed, FILA belongs to Russia/Azerbaijan/Turkey etc and they don't mind if some top Asian wrestlers do not participate, actually I think they are happy with that.
in freestyle it was our best team at the moment, probably we missed only Taghavi, he missed the trials this year and they didn't give him another chance. Lashgari also lost during the trials and could not make the team.
yes of course, World Championship has much more importance than Continental tournaments but Asian Games is something different. Asian countries really care about it. I think our NOC is already a little upset why they didn't save the first team completely for the Asian Games. if it was their decision, they would save Yazdani, Rahimi, Esmaeilpour, Sourian, Norouzi, Akhlaghi and etc for the Asian Games
Terrible draw for Mehdizadeh. He will meet Lopez in the 3rd match but Mehdizadeh didn't have much a shot at a medal anyway. Good draw for Noorozi and a decent draw for Akhlagi but he should win gold still.
disappointment continues.. weak contenders last night, looked poor from the get-go. can't believe what a difference a year makes, or heck even a few months (won world cups in both FS and GR earlier this year). perhaps this is a "rebuilding year".
Actually this is a terrible draw for Norooz, the German guy in 2nd round is very tough. and he also has Kurak and Lorincz in his half, he has to beat at least two of these guys to win a medal here. actually he got 3 of his 4 main rivals, I see only Hasan Aliyev in bottom half.
Akhlaghi looks safe until quarterfinal against twice World Champion Cebi, probably the toughest wrestler in his half.
as you said terrible for Mehdizadeh, he could easily won a bronze if he was in top half. now he has to beat Ukraine and then double world bronze medalist from Kazakhstan before Lopez. and then he has to beat Makhov or Euren for the bronze. almost impossible.

World Cup is not even a secondary tournament, don't take those results seriously. in freestyle we beat a second tier Russian team. but in Greco it was their very best team, but they are not dominant in Greco.
you should know these guys didn't train properly this year , because stupid "Greco technical committee" forced them to go through some rounds of trials and they are actually very tired. that's why our legendary coach Bana left the team. I only count on Akhlaghi and Sourian to win gold here, and also on Rezaei or Norouzi to win a medal at least. Abdevali could be a sure gold but he decided to save himself for the Asian Games.
I just noticed the German! But the good news is that Kurak and Lorincz will face each other and one will be eliminated and if Noorozi handles his own matches he wont face Lorincz or Kurak until the semis. Aliyev has a easy path to the finals. I am going to cry if we finish behind Azerbaijan in both medal count and gold... Seems like a real possibility for both happening.
