    Amir Aliakbari MMA

    Former Iranian Greco-Roman wrestler is now training in Thailand for an MMA career. He is 6'5 and is a monster. Won the gold medal and is a two time champion in the 120KG.

    His lifetime ban from international wrestling (due to doping) has apparently given him the freedom to become the first major Iranian wrestling star to pursue a prize fighting career.

    Great thread about him at Sherdog: http://forums.sherdog.com/forums/f12...kbari-2840243/

    I'm sorry I know that I shouldn't be making fun of my fellow Iranians, but this comment really made me

    Someone posted "I've heard his name before, yeah, usually on YouTube videos right after an explosion or something."

      Will be interesting to see how he pans out. Apparently big things are headed his way. He';

      If it takes off - and MMA is the fastest growing sport in the world - I will not be surprised to see more Iranian world class wrestlers, like Amir, enter MMA.

      He's been training with the beast, Soa the Hulk, who looks smaller when next to Amir.

        Ain't that the guy who kept doping although he got caught once before?
        IRI's politics is no different than handling a pressure cooker ..... As the pressure builds up, you slowly let the steam out just a tad bit so that you don't see overflow, and once the pressure from below is less, you put the lid down again and raise the temperature.

                  True, I don't know much about this sport, but he's got some really heavy punches and kicks, he's a big guy which makes him a bit slow. Is this sport performed in weight-classes? Amir looks at least 10 kg heavier than the opponent

                        well im no expert so maybe others can explain better but this sport is a mixture of different things and the more well rounded you are the better. you need to be good at punching, wrestling, some type of martial arts and ground game is good too. you cant just rely on a size and heavy punch cuz there are a lot of quick fighters out there and if you cant defend yourself you dont know whats going to come at you. someone could throw a jab or jump in the air and kick, knee, do a spin backhand or elbow....he's obviously good at the wrestling portion and no one would dare to take him there, so his ground game is probably good, his punch is good, but he lacks martial art skills and needs to work on his defense.

                        if he does that, he can be amazing! he needs to lose weight to even make the top heavy class so he will be a beast.

                          Such a sad ending. He and Babak Ghorbani could have brought us years of gold medal in heavyweight wrestling. I don't think his second doping was his doing.
