Iran captain Marouf: "USA played perfect volleyball"
Los Angeles, California, USA, May 31, 2015 – The 2014 World League champions USA blocked out Iran 3-1 (25-16, 25-16, 20-25, 25-20) in Los Angeles, with Matt Anderson leading all scorers with 19.
USA Captain Paul Lotman: "To me it felt like a similar match to last night. We had a strong start in the first two sets and were playing really well. Iran played better in the third set. We lost our focus. Fortunately we recovered and regained the momentum and finished the match in four.”
USA coach John Speraw: “I was very happy with the way we started. I think Micah (Christenson) continues to improve in the way he runs our offence. The second and third sets were similar in some regards. Iran started serving the ball much tougher. They switched to jump serves. They were getting us to pass the ball off the net. When you’re playing that game with Iran, it can be very difficult. Their defence is very good and their transition is very good.”
Iran captain Saeid Marouf: “We didn’t do anything on the court. It was our worst performance, I think, in the last two or three years. The other side, USA, played perfect volleyball at a high level. We must learn a lot from the USA team today.”
Iran coach Slobodan Kovac: “USA played better than us again. It’s so difficult to say something; so many mistakes; no good face on the court. I’ve stayed with this team more than 60 matches and I see so many players afraid to play and make mistakes and I don’t know why… My team in general receives very well. In these two matches we received so badly. Only at some points did we play good volleyball.”

Regarding our two matches against USA:
I'm surprised no one has mentioned this, but one of the reasons of our loss was also due to unecessary stress of our coach during the game.
Our previous coach, Velasco, taught the players to deal with their fears and stress against top teams, that's why they were able to play so great against the likes of Russia, Brazil, Italy, Poland, etc...
If you haven't noticed yet, our current coach is quite the opposite. He is constantly looking stressed during the game and that affects our players too.
Take a look at USA's coach. He was pretty much like Velasco, no? Totally calm, even when they fell behind during the third set.
You may also have seen Brazil's coach last year against Iran. He was constantly acting excited during the match, up to a point where he was pulling on his own shirt out of frustration. It sure didn't help Brazil against Iran. We beat them 3-0 at their home there.
Kovac's worries during the game gives stress to our players. This must change or we will most likely lose our next 4 matches (in Poland and Russia respectively)
