To qualify for olympics Iran needs to defeat all other Asian teams during the olympics qualification. Iran is at a higher level than the rest of Asia, so it is very likely we will qualify.

As for the olympics itself... depending on our performance in the current World League and the upcoming World Cup, making it to the final four of the World League and/or World Cup will probably make us favourites for olympics as well.

At this rate, Iran stands a good chance to make it to the final 4 of the World League.
      Are you actually serious???

So you are saying Asia only gets ONE spot in the tournament??

Well that is a little harsh! Unfair too

Yes, apart from the Asian Qualifiers for olympics, there is also the World Cup (the top 2 will qualify for olympics) where several asian teams also participate in. But realistically, none of these asian teams are capable of making it to the final of the World Cup, except maybe Iran.

But Iran is most likely going to qualify through the Asian Qualifiers anyway.

Our B team should be able to win the Asian Championship and qualify for the Olympics!

OK let me explain the qualification format for the Olympics, we have two chances to qualify, both in Japan

                1) World Cup. 12 teams in round robin format (which means "no final") only top 2 qualify, we have a chance but not that much. Poland, Russia, Italy and USA will fight for those 2 spots. Iran will the 5th favorite after those countries, Argentina and Canada are also good teams.

                2) World/Asian Qualifiers, there won't be a separate Asian qualifier as usual, they will merge it with the world qualifiers, 4 teams from Asian + 4 teams from the rest of the world will play in this tournament, top 3 + best Asian team will qualify. if an Asian team finishes in top 3, then we can have two Asian teams in Rio.

here is the combination of those 8 teams
                Japan as host
top 3 from Asian Championship in Tehran
rank 2 and 3 in European qualifier
rank 2 in North America qualifier
rank 2 in South America qualifier

last time our A team with Velasco failed to even qualify for the Olympics, we better learn to respect everybody.

The asian championship isn't the qualifier for the Olympics. The asian spot is through the world qualifying tournament which will be held in May 2016. The top asian team in that tournament advances to the olympics no matter the placement. So iran can finish 7th but as long as they are above Australia, Japan, they will qualify. Iran can also qualify by making the World Cup final and through the other 3 spots of the world qualifying tournament. The advantage of this is that by the time the qualifying tournament starts, Brazil, two World Cup finalists, euro champion, South American, and North American champion will have already made it. 6 top teams will have already made it so that makes Iran's job a lot easier with pretty much 4 spots available in the qualifying tournament. So no excuse not to qualify really.

So basically, we should bet our money on finishing as the top Asian team in the world qualification tournament.

so many mistakes in just one paragraph !

                        1) Asian Championship is indeed a qualifier for the Olympics, just not directly. top 3 from Asian Championship qualify for the World Olympic Qualifier in Japan. here is the source, just look at the headline.

                        2) there is no "World Cup final" , World Cup is a round robin competition, everybody plays everybody, you have to play 11 matches.

                        3) Iran can't qualify by finishing 6th ! lol, there are 3 other Asian teams, if you finish 6th , it means at least one Asian team is ranked higher.

                        * wikipedia is NOT a reliable source, everybody can edit it.

I think uor chance is much better than this, let me make a quick prediction about the qualifier.

for World Cup, I expect USA and one of those European teams to qualify. maybe Poland or Russia. ( yes I know Russia sucks here but they won't be the same team with Muserskiy and Grankin)

Europe: there are so many good teams in Europe, hard to predict, lets say Poland or Russia (the one who didn't qualify in World Cup) will win the qualifier, for example Serbia and Italy finish 2nd and 3rd. (Germany, France and even Bulgaria are also very good)
North America: without USA, I think Canada will win the qualifier, Cuba or Puerto Rico will finish 2nd. (Cuba without all of its best players is not that good anymore)
South America: Argentina for sure, Venezuela probably second

Asia: Iran , Australia and Korea ( or maybe China) will probably finish in top 3.

so the following teams will be there
Serbia and Italy (or France, Germany etc)
                          Cuba
                          Venezuela
                          Iran, Japan, Korea and Australia

Venezuela is very weak, not only Iran, but other Asian teams will most probably beat them. Cuba is not also that good, we can beat them 80/90 %. I think we can finish in top 3 alongside those 2 European teams. it means one more Asian team will qualify as well.

                          -----
FIVB changed the qualification format in favor of non-European teams. at very best we will have 5 Euro teams in Rio. I expect 4 since USA will probably take one of the spots at the World Cup. and there are at least 6 "very good" teams in Europe. some of them will miss the Olympics. which means more chance for Iran to success in Rio.

best scenario, Iran and USA finish top 2 at the World Cup, meaning only 3 Euro teams in Rio ! wishful thinking I know lol

we have to be honest, germany and especially france are really really good right now. also serbia and italy besides polen and russia are at same level as iran. then canada and bulgaria and australia are just slightly off iran right now but can beat iran on their best day. its tough at the top. brazil nr1 right now but with no margin

Just like our B team should have man-handled Turkmenistan in football? Always go full force for the win. Better to win, build chemistry amongst players, and elevate the team morale and confidence since the A-team will be the lineup we use in any major competition.
