2015 Women's World Cup Results, News and Discussions
Why did the world Cup had to start on the same day as the EUFA championship final. What a horrible marketing by both Fifa and Canada.
Also why are the women playing the WC on artificial turf? I attribute the scrappy game to the pitch. The turf is not even good for Sunday pick up games except on rainy days.
That was a really bad performance from Canada last night - definitely the worst one I've ever seen.
The level of football was absolutely TERRIBLE and tactically they looked like a freakin' high school team out there. It was as if someone had told them to make sure they don't do any overlapping runs!
I'm sure it didn't help that we went from watching football at the very highest level in the CL to this game and hoping that a lot of it was first game jitters. We really need to pick it up for the remaining games.
What do you expect bro, Canada is where sports come to die!
Joking aside, like with everything else in Canada, the planning and marketing is atrocious. Had I not been a TFC season ticket holder last year, I wouldn't have even known the Women's WC was in Canada this year.
Toronto, Vancouver and Montreal obviously have a soccer following because of the MLS and Edmonton and Ottawa to some extent because of the NASL, not to mention that Edmonton has hosted international games before. But what kind of idiot would pick Moncton to host games? Or Winnipeg for that matter?
At least pick a university town like Kitchener/Waterloo or London or even Hamilton. And who in their right mind would skip Toronto? I swear, some of the stuff you see happening in Canada makes IR look logical and educated.
I get why they picked Moncton and Winnipeg, because they wanted to sell the sport. But at this stage in the game, selling the sport happens best with fan turnout, media, and sponsorship. They should have picked Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgary, 1 of Saskatoon/Winnipeg/Regina, Toronto, Montreal, and 1 of Ottawa/Halifax...they just didn't think this whole thing through properly.
