Besides 2002 which was an officiating disaster and 1966 with North Korea what Asian squad has even made a dent at the World Cup?

Didn't Japan advance in 2010 by humiliating Denmark 3-1?

With the exception of North Korea, Asian teams did very well in 2010

      Japan beat Cameroon and Denmark
Korea beat Greece, threw Nigeria out of the WC and almost tied vs Uruguay
Australia best possibly the strongest Serbian side since the Yugoslavia-era

Are you joking? The furthest Asias participants went in that WC was round two while Ghana went a round further. In fact siince 2002 an African team has been to round 2 or further while Asia has not even made it to round 2 let alone past it on a consistent basis.

Look at the list of countries....Ghana, Nigeria, Senegal, Ivory Cost...also consider Egypt, Morroco, Cameroon, Algeria, South Africa....Asia cannot compete with those teams. On any given day the top African sides can demolish the top Asian side.

Calm down, this is all I meant. Both Japan and SK advanced, and Australia got 4 points.

Im not saying its impossible to beat African treams...Im just saying in general if its Asia vs Africa bet on the African side. African football is miles ahead of Asia in all areas but perhaps resources/facilities.

I agree with you, if you take the overall perspective Asia soccer is behind south american.

On another note, we need to have a thread called:

"There is no way Asian teams will reach European team level"
              EAT. SLEEP. TM. REPEAT.

African football is overrated, we are on the same level as them. Iran, Japan, South Korea and Australia are roughly on the same level as Nigeria, Ghana, Ivory Coast and Cameroon. South America with the exception of Argentina and Brazil, is also not much stronger than Asia's top 4, if not on the same level aswell.

what do you mean IF? Nigeria didnt field full squad in world cup?

we didnt win but they didnt dominate by any means when they have much more experience and investment in their country from europe. our boys were nervous and it was some wacky CQ plan to play like that, but we could've done better. im pretty sure we can beat any african team if we play right, only team that could be hard to beat is Ghana

Read the quote again...your first sentence(2nd paragraph) is correct...when they field their A squad we can't beat them. A draw as you correctly pointed out is not beating them.

I don't know what you consider dominating but they nearly had twice our ball possesion from what I remember.

Once upon a time people used to say Asians will never be good at volleyball - now look what's happened.
Once upon a time people would say an Asian country will never top the Olympics - now look what's happened.
Once upon a time people would say Americans would never enjoy football - now look what's happened.

The key is consistency. Look what N. Korea did in 1966...how long before that was reapeated by S. Korea?

You can all but gaurantee a team from every confederation except for Asia and Oceania will make it past the WC group stages. Just look since 1998 for evidence of what I mean.

There are huge factors at play ranging from corruption to talent but the difference is in Africa the proximity to Europe, the relatively easy and interference free process of finding talent, and the political climate makes it easier for big clubs to spend little and get alot for their return. These players become like Drogba and help their national teams in return.
