He thanked VivaIran on Instagram for making a video for him saying how they hope he plays for Iran. Doesn't mean much but at least he isn’t half the fool that Daleho “Irandoost” is.

“Socceroos to reach out to young gun Arzani”

Socceroos staffers will reach out to rising Melbourne City star Daniel Arzani as he mulls his international future.

But Football Federation Australia's head of national teams Luke Casserly says it will be disappointing if Arzani chooses to represent Iran over Australia.

Arzani, 19, has lit up the A-League over the past two months but says he has no idea which national team he wants to play for.

Born in Iran but raised in Sydney, Arzani has represented Australia at under-17, under-20 and under-23 level and came through FFA's now-shuttered Centre of Excellence at the AIS.

FFA set to fast-track Arnold’s appointment as Socceroos post-World Cup kingpin
Football Federation Australia is expected to move swiftly on from the unveiling of short-term Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk to official confirmation of Graham Arnold as the nation’s long-term solution, with an announcement possibly as early as next week.
However, reports indicate Iran are tracking his progress and could entice him to change loyalties with a spot in their World Cup squad.

"To be honest, I haven't really thought about it at all," Arzani told reporters on Thursday.

"I'd have to talk to my parents, I'd have to talk to my father and we'd have to decide together.

      "I've got no idea."

Sydney FC coach Graham Arnold said last week that Arzani was pushing himself into Australia's World Cup calculations since emerging as City's new attacking spark.

Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk was careful not to single out any players for attention when he fronted the media in Sydney on Thursday - but there's little doubt Arzani will soon come to his attention as he casts an eye over the A-League in the coming weeks.

Van Marwijk to coach Socceroos his way
New Socceroos coach Bert van Marwijk is confident Australia can "survive" their 2018 FIFA World Cup group and is adamant he will have the team play his style to get there.
Casserly, who helped orchestrate van Marwijk's deal, said he was keen to see Arzani stay in the green and gold.

"We've invested a fair bit in him over the years," Casserly told AAP.

"It would be disappointing if he was to change allegiances. But, as always, it's the decision of the individual."

Arzani, who has been named the January nominee for the A-League's young player of the year award, said he was taking all the extra attention - on-field and off - in his stride.

"A lot of the things we're talking about now, they wouldn't even be talked about if I wasn't doing well," he said.

"I've got to continue doing well to have any chance of being in the World Cup squad or achieving anything, really."

If he was born in Iran, he has to choose Iran, the only connection he has with Australia is that he grew up there, but his family are Iranian and he was born in Iran. Shouldn’t even be a difficult choice.

That's a strong connection. But glad he is thinking about it - if he attracts a European club, Carlos will go after him.

I think he will go for Team Melli eventually. Out of all these dual nationals, only Safari chose Sweden.

I’d choose Iran even though I was born in Scotland. Ghoddos said it himself, he didn’t feel like he was ‘one of them’.

there is no doubt anymore that a decent EU club/league is in his near future picture..!! and CQ and his staff are not idiots, they can tell he is an exceptional talent, But whether they are willing to offer him a possible route into their 2018 WC squad as a means of tempting him away from the Aussies remains to be seen..??
it looks like Aussie are keen on doing just that, just to make sure they can cap-tie him before he gets lured away to iran's side..!?
at first i didnt think the fight for his national team allegiance will start so soon, i thought it will be more of an issue for us in the run up to AC19, but his current club contractual set-up is forcing Melbourne city into giving him frequent minutes in league and the kid's exceptional Pedigree as a footballer will likely result in more eye-catching performances in the league and further expedite his seemingly current meteoritic rise in his young professional career..!
nonetheless, i think its gonna take him a few more high profile league features before Carlos come knocking..! his mental maturity and diminutive stature and durability is still a bit of a concern and he still has to prove he can handle the pressures performing as a regular club starter and capable of duking it out physically with big boys of the league, week in, week out..!!
i was under assumption that he was born in Australia..? but being born in Iran, will significantly increase TM's chances of ultimately attaining his services for Iran..!

Funny video to get know him a bit better. His teammate mentioned he cooks up some persian dishes so he surely does have part of the culture. I think we can get him hopefully

Bro what a shock that would be if Arzani gets called up in the place of Shojaei, who remains blacklisted by the federation...

No matter what, we need Shojaei... Best CAM we have right now.

Nonetheless, Arzani is also super talented. Hope he chooses Iran and makes his way to Europe soon.

Daniel Arzani, Iranian playing for Australia U-17

So Arzani recently made his insta public, and his latest post went from having a few comments to over 300 comments.

Of course, mostly Iranians with generic Iranian flag emojis. This will hopefully sway him to choose Team Melli.

The story is that all his coaches + advisors want him to choose Australia.

It may be that his parents are the only one that want him to play for Iran (not even certain if that is the case).

Aussies don’t really give a fk about football..!They are a rugby & Aussie rule football nation & will be forever.
There is Nothing like playing for your birth country in front of a jam packed Azadi, with passionate fans cheering & cherishing your family name hopefully for years to come ..!
If I were him, for time being , I’d delay any such decision as long as I could & access the situation for time being until Carlito pay him a visit, act like it’s a hard decision, knowing inside he is going to play for Iran ultimately ..!

I think football is growing in popularity in Australia. Their league has a higher average attendance than the PGL despite having a much smaller population than us.

Many things wrong with that statement. You can't compare the situation in Australia and Iran, if Australia had Iran's current situation they would barely draw 2,000 for each game. In Iran half the population is not allowed to even go to football matches, there is virtually no marketing done for the games, most stadiums are very poor quality, a lot of stadiums are outside of the city with no public transportation, and the economy in Iran is much worse than Australia.

Tehranto jan I saw you tweeted “Both Iran and Australia are tracking the progress of Daniel Arzani...” - where did you see that Iran was tracking him? The TM staff knows about him?
