Yep he has been included in the 32 man list for the upcoming friendlies.

But it’s just friendlies so he is not cap-tied yet.

No way he picks Iran now. I know it’s not legal cap-tied but Australia really does not have better players while Sweden had comparable players (as far as value) to saman Ghoddos.

Even though I do think Arzani is talented enough to someday be a fantastic player for either country, this selection is an obvious move by the Australian FA to make the decision for him (though he can technically still change nations legally).

I understand his desire to play for the country he grew up in, but at the same time I want Iran to put in a strong performance at the WC to show him what he’s missing out on. Petty, I suppose, but hard pill for me to swallow.

On the other hand, I suppose we have similar talents like Shekari and at the end of day, he’s not good enough yet to justify selecting him for the upcoming WC.

          They’re more desperate than us!

Even if he makes to WC, unless he actually play a match he won't be Caped

His agent has done a great job forcing this.
He probably won't make the 23 man squad, but it will raise his value.

All I know is he will greatly regret his decision in a few years...

I’m waiting to see if this guy shows any class like saman did. The way he handled his situation would have left me admiring him even if he chose Sweden bc he actually took the time to consider his options and expressed his love for both countries and explained why it’s a difficult choice. We haven’t seen that from Arzani

                    Yeah, kids got no class

                    -------------------------------

FIFA World Cup hopeful Daniel Arzani has confirmed his allegiance to Australia after earning a call-up to Bert van Marwijk’s 32-man preliminary Caltex Socceroos squad.

After a breakout season in the Hyundai A-League with Melbourne City, Arzani, 19, is a chance of going to Turkey with the Caltex Socceroos – with the 26-man travelling squad to be announced next week.

Arzani, who has been keeping fit in the Hyundai A-League off-season by training with the Caltex Socceroos Head of Sports Science Craig Duncan, declared he was “stoked” to earn a first call-up and hopeful of going into camp if selected.

“I’m absolutely stoked to be in the squad and I’m looking forward to – hopefully – being in the 26,” Arzani told socceroos.com.au.

“I’ve been training almost every day with Craig Duncan – the Head of Sports Science with the Caltex Socceroos.

“I’ve been doing a lot of running to try and stay fit and sharp. Honestly, it’s just a lot of running, a little bit of ball work but sprinting and making sure I can increase my aerobic capacity.”

Arzani, who has played for the Joeys, Young Socceroos and Under-23s, added: “For me, it’s about trying to prove something to Bert [van Marwijk] – trying to prove I’m a valuable member of the team and hopefully I can make the 23 from there.”

But the youngster, who was also eligible to play for Iran, the nation of his birth, was clear in declaring he sees himself as Australian and wants to achieve his dream of playing for the Caltex Socceroos.

“I think the way the last couple of months have panned out, I feel like I owe an allegiance to Australia because I grew up here, I learned a lot of my football here, I was at the AIS and I’m just really happy with the decision I’ve made,” he said.

“It would be amazing to play for my country for the first team, it would be very exciting and hopefully I can do my country proud.”

Sorry I don't see anything bad about what he said. He didn't say anything bad about Iran, he just said that he has grown up and learned his football in Australia.

He got an invite from Australia and he took it - its baffling how before his decision everyone remains respectful and then after his decision he is a piece of trash who is only thinking about himself (see post above mine).

Iran was not even a footnote in his comments. He could have said "I am proud of my Iranian heritage, but I live and learned soccer in Australia" - something like this.

Anyway, glad we know where he stands and good we have enough offensive players that he won't matter.

Arzani is pretty overrated anyways in all seriousness. Australian league is actually pretty trash and Arzani, who plays winger or attacking mid, has 18 games, 2 goals, and 3 assists. Those are decent stats for a 19 y/o in that league but that's about it... DECENT. He's not a big miss like Ghoddos would have been. Anyways he was respectful about his decision unlike Irannadust so good luck to him I guess

It's just weird, we have 50 pages talking about this kid - and then when he accepts an Australian invite (just like Saman accepted a Swedish invite), he suddenly is a rubbish player and we have way better than him anyway.

So why were you guessing what he would do for 50 pages?

I don’t even understand how people spoke 50 pages about him in the first place
