That Velasco guy has an excellent mentality that can transfer to the team. He is an inspiration to the players specially when they play against a better team. He was the cause of our sharp success against volleyball world giants. We need an inspiration and knowledgeable coach like him to prevent Iran from this declining phase. Our current coach is good for tactics but a disadvantage for motivation or inspiration. Sport ministry didn't back up the team financially too. It was mentioned by our captain during the world league last match against Poland if you remember. He said Iranian federation or sport ministry didn't help them nor gave them any promise or hope. He was very disappointed.

        tks
4 recent failures as followed and 1 more failure to come........

        1) The University Games in South Korea = Iran University Team with the leadership of Payam Akhbari failed to even finish in Top 5. This team was comprised of U-23, U-19 players.

        2) Asia Volleyball Championship in Tehran last month = Federation felt so confident that we are going to win the Championship at home that they decided for the sake of World Championship in Japan, give the A team rest and allow the B team to take part. The B team, led by Payam Akhbari failed to win the championship in Tehran and got 2nd place. they were lucky to get that far as they very on the verge of elimination if it was not for the Meltdown by Chinese team in the semifinals.

        3) Asia Club Championship= Paykan VC, the winner of Iranian Super League and one of the best teams in Asia, again led by Payam Akhbari, failed to win the championship in Asia Club Championship. They finished Third place!! I have to remind you that Iranian Clubs have been dominated the Club championships.

        4) FIVB U-23 Championship in Dubai = U-23 team led by Payam Akhbari again, not only did not finish in the TOP 5, but they finished in the 8th place!! In the last edition of the U-23 Championship we finished 5th!!

        5) Now it is time for World Championship in Japan!! the federation has talked about this tournament and has placed all their attention on this tournament as ONLY the top 2 teams will get direct entry into next year's Olympic games, they rest of the teams will go into qualification pool for at-large qualification which is very difficult.

RECAP= 4 failures and 1 more failure is coming up for poor planning!! this is nothing more than poor planning and execution. how can you give 4 different teams to 1 individual!! do we not have other coaches in iran and 1 person is in charge of 4 teams in international level!! this is expected and no one is to blame but FEDERATION that wants to act international after a succession of achievements in recent years. This shows that we are very behind to the TOP 10 teams in the world in planning and executing different tournaments.

The person to blame is Davarzani and his team, MARK MY WORDS, they will through Kovaj under the bus for their incompetence and will blame the poor guy for everything!! They do not have the balls to come and admit they have been poor in planning and will find their escape goat in Kovaj.

          Very unfair here.
I don't understand the logic besides using Akhbari so many times, but to blame Davarzani and the entire federation is not right. This is the same federation that is running a high quality league, several very successful youth national teams (at the world level), and a national team that has performed well enough that we have such high expectations.
Even if they don't make it out of this tournament, they still can qualify out of the Asian region and that at the very least should be doable if the team plays even average!

although I can agree with you to most degree, I can't agree with you completely. Davarzani is running a mofia style federation very similar to Dadkhan back in in 2006 with Team Melli. If you follow the news closely, now that the iran volleyball has found "riches" in volleyball they feel untouchable against any criticism and anyone who criticism them are automatically marked as an "enemy" of the federation. I feel like they are going through "power trip" and are blind to mistakes that they are making.

                I understand what you're saying.
There certainly is an element in this that due to their success they feel like there is no room for criticism.
Naturally, there will always be complaints, but this is a federation that is still mostly doing quite well. Davarzani is actually a good chap. He's been trying to get women into stadium for a while now, and he is also the man who wouldn't let poorly financed clubs into the league. If Iran makes it to the Olympics, most of us will forget the complaints. The way he has set up the youth teams, Iran will have good teams for at least another 5-10 years.

As for Dadkan, let's not forget half the haters he had came from the pro Aliabadi, pro AN crowd who just wanted their own people in the federation. Dadkan did what he was supposed to do. Get TM to World Cup. We never had money issues when he was IFF head (when he left IFF they were running a profit and had long term sponsors). He also had the bad luck of AN being president and his messed up comments single handedly causing many teams to cancel friendlies and training camps with TM.

Thank God we won against Tunisia. What an embarrassment it would be if we lost.

I think the management of our volleyball is doing a very good job, actually.

The difference between us and Argentina was not really the quality, but rather the motivation and will.

We have excellent skills, and we are capable of defeating any team, but it is the coach's job to give our men the willpower on the field.

When he is shouting like that during the time-out I am worried that it's not really helping, but only adding stress to the players. Just look at every other top volleyball coach... they are always calm even if they are behind. Velasco is one of these.

This is not football where you have to jump up and down as a coach and start yelling when things aren't turning out well.

I think he will need to get replaced if we don't become successful in this tournament.

Sure, he is a good coach. He has the skills, but not the wills

i guess we never learn, we always start tournaments so bad that by the time we get going it is too little to late. we need to start tournaments with the same way we finish. otherwise we always loose out on opportunities to advance to next round etc...
