London was great 3 gold 1 silver 2 bronze. compared to that rio will be explosive fail.
realistic chance for gold will be sourian . rahimi usually finds a way to not win but yes he can do it. small chance for gold will be mohammadi, reza yazdani, hasan yazdani, omid nourozi, akhlaghi, abdevali and ghasem rezaei. so 9 guys who could reach the final but maybe in a very good case 3 of them will and 1 will win gold

the difference in Rio is that we have a very young and talented squad, specially in Freestyle. Karmi, Yazdani, Mohammadi, these guys put a great show on display the last days. I am very hopeful that they can get better and better.... so when you are a young Bronze medalist, they way up can only be Gold and Silver.
I am very hopeful of Rio.

and on Greco we have experienced Wrestlers, Sourian, Abdevali, and also Norouzi if he makes it to the Olympic squad all have realistic chances of Gold and Silver.

But, what I am satisfied is, again, the display by the Freestyle youngsters, bright future for sure.

A year ago we didn't have likes of Yazdani jr and Karimi, so who knows what will happen next year.
The Greco team lost because of poor management/coaching, we still have great wrestlers, they could win more medals if they had better coach. there is still chance they hire a better coach for next year, Banna won't come back but I still hope they get one of his assistants.
but in freestyle, I was expecting much more, I think they just out-scouted ! it happens when you compete in too many meaningless competitions specially that silly World Cup in Los Angeles few months ago. I really hope they learn from their mistakes for the next year, we still have a great team.
if nobody gets injured or we don't find any new talent (which is quite possible) our next year Olympic team should be something like this.
57: Rahimi - he deserved gold here but did stupid mistake, not his first time though, still he has a good chance for medal, even gold, but he is aging and will be one year older next year
65: Mohammadi - without any doubt he is our best bet for the gold, he could win the gold here if it wasn't for his own mistake.
74: H. Yazdani - there will be a competition in this weight, but I expect Yazdani to beat everybody here. he showed his talent here but also showed his weaknesses. hard to predict him since he never wrestled at 74 but I believe he has a chance, even good chance but needs more competition with top wrestlers.
86: Karimi - he won the trials narrowly this year over Jokar, since he is 21, he will be better next year and i expect him to win the trials once again, still we have an amazing young talent in this weight in Mojtaba Goleij, he will challenge Karimi, Jokar and Lashgari next year. there is a great wrestler in this weight Sadullaev, but Karimi shows us he is not unbeatable, Karimi (or any other Iranian wrestler) can beat the rest quite easily.
97: Yazdani - Tahan was a terrible choice, they should send Mohammadan instead, 97kg is becoming weaker with Gazyumov and Gadisov aging, even Mohammadian could win the gold this year. even though he does stupid mistakes sometimes, still I believe Reza yazdani is our best wrestler in this weight. nothing is guaranteed but even gold is possible
125: Hadi or Ghasemi - A very disappointing tournament for Hadi. that was our worst match in this tournament. with Ghasemi in poor shape recently we are in trouble in this weight, Hadi is good only in non-serious competitions, but he sucks in major competition beause of his mental weakness, still I believe he is better than Ghasemi.
Greco
59: Sourian - he got robbed here but also did some mistakes, he is still the best and favorite #1, I just hope next year they don't take his energy by forcing him to compete in meaningless local trials.
66: Norouzi - there is no clear favorite in this weight, Noroozi is still a great wrestler and can beat anybody. like Sourian, I just hope they don't make prblem for him inside the country.
75: Abdevali - was expecting more from him. but because of his size, he just can't outmuscle his opponent in this weight. but maybe with one year, when he fits in this weight he will have more chance, he also didn't train well this year because he had problems with the coach. I give him chance for medal, gold almost impossible.
86: Akhlaghi - he was the only wrestler who performed better than my prediction. could win the gold easily if it wasn't for that mistake. he can beat anybody but also he is not unbeatable.
98: Rezaei - he had a great tournament, but that Armenian kid was just great. I don't think Ghasem can beat him but can beat the rest, I expect medal but not gold.
130: ??? - we just suck in this weight, even the qualification is not a sure thing. I still think Babajanzadeh is our best in this weight but even Bashir has no chance for medal unless he gets a dream draw.

I totally agree with your analysis.
As I also said here, we have amazing youngsters among Freestylists (Karimi, Yazdani, Mohammadi) who can only get better and better, and since they are already semi finalists at World Championships, better means GOLD or SILVER in the following tournaments (including Olympics).
And on Greco we have experienced wrestlers... I am not annoyed by the results of this tournament, but more pleased with the experience gained.

iran qualified 3 Greco and 5 FS weights. out of 12 weights. 75., 85 and 98 Greco. 57, 65, 74, 86 and 97 freestyle.


there are 3 more tournaments left. one Asian and 2 world qualification tournaments. but only top 2 qualify from each tournament.

It's reportedly had a wide coverage in Iranian sports social media circuits, so I am sure other folks on the forums here must have heard something. I wonder if this news is true, he now gets to compete for the US team in Rio 2016.
