2015 FIBA Basketball Asia Championship [23 September - 3 October]

    2015 FIBA Asia Championship

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_F...a_Championship

    Host nation: China

This tournament is very important because the winner qualifies directly for the 2016 olympic's Basketball event.
The 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked teams in this tournament will have to compete in FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament, where they will face tough opponents from European and other continents (slim chance for an Asian team to qualify through this tournament)

Iran has one of the best Asian basketball teams, so hopefully they will be able to win the Asia Championship and simply qualify directly.

    Iran:
Iran currently ranks 17th in the world, and 2nd in Asia, behind China. The coach is Dirk Bauermann, a German.
They have qualified to the Summer Olympics twice in the past, in 1948 and 2008. They defeated Ireland and Hungary in the 1948 event.
Iran head into the Asia Championship as the defending champions, as they won the latest edition in 2013, but also in 2009 and 2007.

16 teams participate in this tournament.
The winner qualifies for the olympic games. The 2nd, 3rd and 4th ranked teams have to compete in another (tough) qualifier against other continents for a spot in the olympics.

Asian powerhouses in this tournament include:
China, Philippines, South Korea, Lebanon and Iran

Iran has to bring their A game to every single game.
I am afraid they'll become complacent after the round robin and choke.
They're still good enough to win based on their talent, but they will really have to watch out for China, and crappy reffing.

Ye Asia really gets screwed when it comes to International qualification! As usual the Europeans and the America's get more spots just like in every other sport.

Like in volleyball. We have to give koon to get qualified. Why don't the Asian champions qualify directly?

Will be tough. I really hope we don't miss it because we are missing our star player because of freaking sarbazi.

I know man. Tell me about it! Arsalan Kazemi is missing, he was invited but couldn't join the team due to Sarbazi. He said it himself.

He doesn't even play in Iran? What kind of sense does that make?

The law is so stupid. They don't care. As he has finished his studies he won't be able to leave Iran the next time he enters. So if he had come for the camp he would be stuck in Iran!!!!!!

Yes, but that is not the reason at all. He said he loved to play in the cup.
