I think you are mistaking him with IRIB anchor Ehsan Alikhani, who was rumored to have passed away. It has been denied so far.

Our only legit chances for medals are pretty much just wrestling, weightlifting and taekwondo. Its pretty frustrating as these events are near the end of the games so we will have to keep seeing the number 0 next to Iran in the medal standings for a while.

I really hope we take a ton of medals in wrestling and weightlifting.

We are already performing 50% below our capacity as a nation due to the fact that our women are restricted when it comes to sports. You can calculate the rest.

No. This is the problem. Sports reflects the country's overall well-being among its people. If you excell at sports, it means your have a healthy people in your country, if not, it means your country is probably a shit hole.

Although I agree with your optimism, I can't be happy with just the fact that we are in the Olympics. We are wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy below what we deserve in sports as a nation. But I'm not going to get deeper into that.
Let me add to your last statement about it being the problem. The nonchalant attitude is an attribute, along with the upbringing I mentioned in my previous comment, one more thing to add to the list is the social attitude. Would you guys agree with me if a young individual, lets say ages 13-14 decides he/she is very interested in "X" sport, and would like to focus on that, excel at it and maybe make a living out of it. What's the first thing people around he/she are going to say? "Bache boro dars bekhon" Our countries mentality is that sitting behind konkoor is better than going and becoming a world class athlete.

            Eey baba

Do you know that in many countries, especially Eastern blocks and China, they separate children from parents and work them hard every day. I visited some of their camps in Romania and mainland China.
No Iranian parent would let their children to be abused for the sake of Gold medal. Plus there is no money in sports in Iran. NO TV add for cereals or other junks similar to Canada or USA.

Wrestling is in our blood especially in Mazandaran province of Iran. Children watch older people wrestle every day. There are many events for this, but for other sports there is no support.

Haha yeah. And then we all listen like good kids and get our doctors degree. Then we spend the rest of our lives driving a taxi. And we wonder where we went wrong.

LOL. Iranian doctors, especially Ph.D. in economics, are NOT alone in driving taxi. Actually Taxi drivers in some countries make good money from tips.

In a group of film makers in Tehran, several years ago I mentioned that Iranian parents want their children to be doctor or Mohandes. In my view, ALL professions are valuable to a society. Unfortunately, we think only doctors or Mohandes make money, in the USA, most money is made by lawyers.

Facilites are important. Iran does not have sufficient facilities and those available are limited in use.

You guys, show a little optimism. Iran's Men's Volleyball team has never been in such a grand stage. They are underdogs yet you have high expectations of them pummeling everyone..

But with that said, after seeing Iraq (a country that has been in war for more than a decade) tying with Brazil in a shocker, it made me realize that many of our athletes seem not to have that team first attitude. If you think of it, we've had Football teams comprises of star athletes yet could never get the job done. We have that I over team attitude and that needs to change..
