Anyway, kudos to Saeid Mollaei for keeping his cool and not getting all emotional because he lost like that.

It is even worse than this. His last yellow card wasn't because of passivity or a wrong holding, it was because he closed his judogi (also called Kimono) without the referee's approval, so this is definitely the stupidest way to lose. Also I think we will regret it as the Russian will probably get a medal with this draw, or at least he will finish near it.
But I prefer this lost to another 5th place in Judo, Beijing 2008 was a nightmare of narrow loses in Bronze medal matches.

In the new system in place for 8 years now, only quarterfinalist are repeched so if you lose before 1/4 you are out, regardless of what you opponent does. (unlike Wrestling or Taekwondo).

Russian has to be in the final for Mollaei to fight for the third place or one of the two third places. We just need to be hopeful that Russian will reach final.

What our friend says was the old system which was in place till Beijing 2008.
Now the repechage systems works in that way: both quarterfinalists (the 2 which lost in 1/4) in each draw face each other and the winner will face the loser semifinalist of the other draw (as there is a top and a bottom draw in fighting sports) for the bronze medal match.

Iranians do not follow the rules, including our parents. My mother does what she wants whenever she wants even in going through airports she does not care or listens. It is a cultural weakness whereas in China a person does not move until he or she is told to move. LOL.
