Iran won 4 Athletics spots in July for 2016 Olympics. Not that any of them are likely to finish in the top 10. Ehsan Haddadi, our only chance for a medal in this sport hasn't managed qualification yet!!

200m- Mohammad Hossein Abaraghi
Female Shot put - Leila Rajabi

Leila Rajabi is our only "non-Iranian" athlete in Iran's history of Olympics.

Handball

Iran qualified to the semi finals of the Asian Olympic qualifiers with 4 wins and only 1 loss against Qatar. We are very unlikely to qualify directly as Qatar has a fake team full of international players and we are missing our star player.

Weightlifting

World championship in Houston, USA started yesterday. Our first guy became 27th in the world and the 2nd one got injured after 2 tries and couldn't get any score. We will not be able to get full qualifications based n these results and the fact that 3 of our best lifters are injured/suspended.

no other realistic way. iran handball should anyway focusing on developing before thinking about olympics

Intercontinental Qualifiers if we finish 2nd or 3rd. but then we will be grouped with 3 European teams and have to finish in top 2 to qualify, uphill task !

IR's sport minister Goudarzi said in an interview a couple of days ago that the best we can expect is 6 medals in 2016 Olympics!!!!

That is half of what we got in London. The guy is basically shouting his own incompetency as he has been in control of our sport in the past 2 years.

Iran qualified 5 weightlifters to the olympics:

We could have easily gotten 6 spots but Behrouzi (69kg), Taghian (77kg), and Nasirshelal (105kg) all bombed out at the world championships. Still, 5 spots isn't bad. If everyone is healthy, it will probably be Salimi, Rostami, Mohammadpour, Moradi, and I'm not sure about the 5th. Either Askari, Nasirshelal, Taghian, Hashemi, Behrouzi, or or Moulaei. We must decide which 5 athletes are competing in Rio by June 20, 2016.

For the first time in Iranian history and in a rare event in the world one of our Athletes qualified for both Olympics and par-olympics in archery. Amazing achievement. Let's hops Zahra Nemati can get medals in both events!

Taghavi and Lashgari are out of national team since ages and we have some great replacements...

Yes. The names on that wiki page are definitely wrong.
Note than the names on my wrestling list are also not guaranteed to be the final squad and could be replaced in which case I will update the thread.
