Yesterday was really sad for Iran Taekwondo as Akram Khodabandeh failed to qualify , she only had to win one match but she failed, Kimia made it today quite easily
beside that, Iran got anoher spot in Discus Throw, Mahmoud Samimi threw the disk 65m in Hungary which is the exact equal of the Olympic standard and therefore qualified for Rio, with this we have 41 qualified athletes so far
Archery 1
Athletics 7
Boxing 1
Cycling 3
Fencing 2
Shooting 5
Table Tennis 3
Taekwondo 4
Weightlifting 5
Wrestling 10
Important day this Friday for Iran, Hamid Sourian will try his chance once again in Mongolia, even though there is still one tournament left in Turkey in case he fails but I think it will be his last chance.

That's the only event I watch in its entirety from the Olympics. Any Iranians coming up in that sport that I should look out for?

Kianoush Rostami 85kg---2 times world champ. won bronze in 2012. Will most likely win either a gold or silver
Sohrab Moradi 94kg----- In top form and has broken world records in training several times. Has a good chance for a medal if the weightlifting mafia doesn't make him drop his lifts like in 2012.
Behdad Salimi 105+ --- Just back from injury. If he becomes fit he is the number 1 contender in his weight for a gold since the Russian guy was caught with doping.Last edited by _Navid_; 04-19-2016, 05:24 AM.

yes exactly by the time he's injury is recoverd the olympics will start so he will have had no time for any training besides recovery. a weight lifter like salimi neeeds almost 1 year of full training to reach 215kg and 260kg in clean&jerk

Even a very well prepared Salimi had a hard time to win the gold in Rio, if you follow the European Championship the Georgian guy Lasha Talakhadze (who won silver in worlds behind Lovchev) just did 463 ! and he can lift more. Salimi at best only can win a bronze , there is also a Russian wrestler Albiev.
btw, this year we have no idea about all those weightlifters in the camp they keep their training records as secret ! except for those 2-3, the rest will go Uzbekistan for Asian Championship. I'm curious to know Barari and Molaei records. Barari claims he had some great records when he was banned for doping (he is eligible to compete now)

he had a knee surgery late in 2014, and his 2015 poor results were expected. this year he has time to reach his max for Rio.
