He just announced retirement for no specific reason ! apparently after winning Asian Games gold medal twice (and knowing the fact he will never win an Olympic medal) he has no motivation.

yeah you are right, Habibian sucks big time, I knew he is not Shadi but he is really bad. we were #1 in Asia in this event, not anymore.

Habibian has to finish 1st or 2nd in Final B to qualify (very unlikely).

The disaster is complete, he finished 4th at the final B race. Don't know what happened to him, he wasn't that bad, always reaching finals and he had a couple of 4th places, even in Asian Games. That means that the whole men team has exploded, they lost at least 2 levels in Asian Ranking which is really bad, that means that without Shadi the team is completely weak and it has been the case for some times now. If it was just for him being unprepared the situation wouldn't be like this, the LW2X has also lost badly.

At least the women team is improving each year, and because of the clothing code in this sport it can be a place to shine in the future for our girls, even though it still hurts them.
And Mrs Javar qualified finally. Agha Mohsen will be happy.

On other news Iran's Sabre Team qualified for World Championships QUARTERFINALS after beating French team in 1/8 today.
Another fantastic performance by these guys, it is such hard to perform against European teams in this sport. They deserved this after turning narrowly around it for some years now.
Tomorrow 1/4 against the USA, everything is possible.

Are there any more qualifications? I expect our numbers to be greater especially fielding at least 12 female athletes..

1 for sure in Swimming as universal quota/WildCard. Maybe one or 2 more in Athletics (Hammer Throw, maybe 400, 800 or Long Jump).
There will be a continental tournament in Beach Volleyball, but the task will be really hard. Indoor Volleyball of course.
2 or 3 more in Boxing are possible if they are for once smart enough to send the right guys to the right competitions, but I wouldn't bet on this since the Boxing Federation is run by incompetent people.
Between 1 and 3 in Judo. 3 if they do the job on remaining World Cups, it will be probably 1 or 3 (Mahjoub and Mollaei must qualify directly).

I can add Archery to this list, they will try to qualify in team events and even if they fail , they still have good chance to qualify one single male athlete.

I believe the record is still from 1976, when we had 80+ athletes, which was a lot for a country. Even South Korea didn't have that many at that time.

at the time we had qualification tournaments only for team sports, everybody could participate in individual sports. they started having serious qualification tournaments for every sports in 1992.

They are training very hard with the new coach Luzano. Seems like they like the coach and we won't see anymore players causing problems like Kovac's times. If Iran play their usual game and don't get emotional like last time they can easily become 3rd behind France and Poland. We have beaten the likes of Canada and Venezuela easily in the past 4 years!

Also don't forget that the top 3 teams qualify + the top Asian team.

This means that even if our volleyball doesn't finish top 3, we just have to make sure we finish ahead of Japan, China, Aus

Ok thanks for the info.
If that's what they have decided that's very stupid, as he is out of shape and won't qualify. That's clear he has to prepare for Rio now, not to participe at these tournaments. Even if he qualifies it will be too late for him to return to his level by now.
