one team with long history and spent probably HALF A BILLION $ in the past few years vs. a team that spent probably 10M ?
money doesnt buy happiness
In 1993 when Manchester United won their first premier league after 26 years of drought it was the start of the new dynasty.
Which later on Sir Alex Ferguson went on and won many more trophies and we became a brand of football known every where in the world.
That being said money/investments were injected in the team which helped Manchester United build stronger squad each year but keeping their core values and traditions such as giving chance to the youth and focusing on their academy just like Barcelona.
People want to talk about the amount of money Manchester United spend everywhere first the fail to realize we earned that money because of all the successful season we had winning trophies, second we did not rely on a "Sugar daddy" like Man City or Chelsea to get them out of the slum. Finally most of the money was never invested in the team throughout our successful years because of our owners taking all the profits and paying their personal debts.
Just to give you an example, when looking at teams spending you need to consider their net spending. This season Manchester United spent almost 90m on 6 players but at the same time they released 14 players for 70m in total and this is not even counting releasing big name players like Van Persie with huge wages. Taking that into consideration Manchester United did not go on a "BIG SPENDING" specially with the amount of money we got for our investments. 70m/year deal with Adidas and 50m/year from Chevrolet. Its funny because even through we spend for all these new players to help improve the team, it has been the youth players that have shined throughout this season with the likes of Marcus Rashford, Lingard, Timothy Fosu-Mensah, Pereira.
This is all to say, Manchester United did not build their empire over a night and they were their "Leicester" in their time. The key part of their success was what they did after they won those trophies and how they invested in the team. I can guarantee you Leicester City with the money they will receive for winning the team, Champions league money, TV money and new sponsorship they will go a on a massive spending this summer as well. It will be important for them to keep their players and not be a selling club just like Nottingham Forest in the 70's, Leeds in the 90's or even Blackburn winning the league in 95' but failed to do anything afterwards.
regardless Congrats to Leicester I could think of teams getting lucky in tournaments and winning it (Greece 04) but for Leicester City to do it over a full season is incredible. Beating all odds 5000/1 for winning the league. The most incredible story in sports history.Last edited by PouriaAkaBarut; 05-03-2016, 10:12 AM.sigpic
