Let's hope Amir can win Rizin. Would be huge for him if he wins this tournament. UFC would definitely happen, thereafter.

Amir has a very realistic shot at winning. Cro Cop is always dangerous, but I do not think he can handle Amir's wrestling. Albrektsson is a up and comer but hes giving like 40-50 pounds away and should be manhandled by Amir. Wanderlie is a legend but he's way too old to have anything more than a punchers chance. Prochazka is someone to keep your eye on but again he doesn't possess the skill to dominate Amir on the feet nor on the ground.
Amir's first opponent is the Brazilian, Almeida, who has been trained at the Corinthians camp. He has pretty good Muay Thai and BJJ but just like other Corinthians trained fighters has a severe weakness against good wrestlers. Amir is probably one of the best wrestlers in all of MMA, so this should be a cake walk.
If Amir can avoid a fluke knockout and any cardio issues, he should walk thru this tournament.

I was worried that someone like King Mo or Shane Carwin would enter the tournament. But they didn't.

Thanks for info. Wouldn't be afraid of Shane, he hasn't fought in half-a-decade but he always packs knockout power, so he's always got a shot. King Mo is much smaller than Amir, so game plan would have been to dominate him physically. I know these are hypotheticals.

Either way, this is a great way to get his name out there. I know Rizin and Bellator have a partnership as well, so he will definitely catch some eyeballs if he makes it far. Shame that it seems like Masoud isn't even remotely as good of a prospect. If we could have two bad boys in the heavyweight division, it would really help accelerate the sport for Iranians.

BTW, Reza Maddadi's next fight is at UFC 204 against Marc Diakiese. Unfortunately, Reza is 38 and has zero chance to be competitive for lightweight title. Not sure even if he wins he will crack the top 15 if he wins next bout.

Shame Makwan Amirkhani has nothing to do with Iran and keeps mentioning his Kurdish background. He's a good fighter. Dickhead. Gegard Mousasi's cool, he's said he's born in Iran and wished his "country man's" Iranians a happy new year too and has called Iranians "hamvatans" in video before too. Beniel Dariush talked about Iran before too - so he's cool. Hope Amirkhani loses every fight haha

King Mo has the experience, the wrestling background, and a strong enough stand up game to challenge anyone. He also walks around at 230 so the weight difference isn't that big. Carwin might not have fought in a few years but the guy is massive and one of the strongest fighters in the world. He has cardio issues but would easily be the favorite if he entered.

Amir still needs experience and improvement in his standup game.

Always been a huge fan of Mousasi. It's a shame that he never challenged for a title. The guy seems a bit passive for a fighter.

Madadi is hilarious. Love watching him fight and give interviews. Its a shame hes not 10 years younger and dabbles in petty crimes.

Mousasi is trying to go for the title. He believes if he defeats Belfort, his chances go up. But the Middleweight division is murderer's row with Yoel, Jacare, Weidman, Rockhold there. He's talking more shit on his social media, so he's trying to be more aggressive. Which he needs to be. BTW, his manager is also Iranian.

Also an interesting note. There is a mystery fighter who is getting a bye in the first round. His first fight will be in the second round in December. A lot of people are thinking it will be Fedor.

He mostly identifies as Assyrian. He carries the Assyrian flag and has stated that if he could he would have the Assyrian flag on his shirt sleeve. And since he couldn't he has the American flag on there right now. Other than this video he never has any mention of Iran.

We have had some strange luck with our UFC fighters. Mousasi waves the Armenian flag even though he has no connection with the country of Armenia and usually (not always) has his place of birth flag as holland.

Makwan amirkhani speaks only of Kurdistan and says his place of birth is the country of Kurdistan which doesn't exist even though he was born in Iran. And he goes by Mr. Finland.

Amir Aliakbari is a darkhorse in the Rizin tournament

Most of the attention paid towards Rizin’s openweight grand prix has been directed toward the return of Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic and the eventual entry of Wanderlei Silva. However, the tournament also features the big show debut of one of the most intriguing heavyweight prospects in recent memory, Amir Aliakbari.

Aliakbari is a two-time Greco-Roman wrestling world champion. He won the worlds at 96 kg before moving up to heavyweight in 2013 and winning another gold medal. He missed the 2012 Olympics due to a doping violation. After a second doping offense following to 2013 world championships, Aliakbari was stripped of his gold medal and banned from the sport.

In three world championships, he went 14-1 and outscored his opponents 61-11. That is good enough for a 97.88 Wrestler’s Pythagorean Expectation.

“He won the worlds a few years ago, popped positive though. Beastly talent, unfortunate,” said Tim Hands of Greco-Roman wrestling website FivePointMove.com. “He had a power game. He had a lot of typical Iranian qualities too, quick technical. But again, he’s tainted.”

Aliakbari made his MMA debut last October. He has dispatched both his opponents, Hyung Chul-Lee and Radu Spinghel via first-round knockout, while only spending 1:19 in the cage. His opponent Joao Almeida holds a 4-1 record and is ranked #89 by Fight Matrix.

With the UFC bringing in USADA and coming down harder than ever before on performance enhancing drugs, it will be interesting to see where Aliakbari’s career goes. However, there is no denying his natural talent, and there is a good chance he will make a long run in the Rizin tournament.
