we should make a separate thread when Euros actually start. Its a much more exciting and important tournament. There is too much going on each of these tournaments to discuss them all in one thread. This copa america is meaningless anyways.

First half finished for Argentina and Chile. 0 - 0

It seems most good teams have sent their B teams.
min. 57, DiMaria scored for Argentina
      Min 70, Argentina 2 - 0 Chile
      Full time Argentina 2 - 1 Chile

Few hours ago, Panama 2 - Bolivia 1.

Saying its a joke isnt referring to quality of teams but how its tougher to make it out of Asia, Europe, Africa than it is coming out of North or South America.
yep, the way they're grouped is a joke, few teams duke it out every few years with the similar outcome every time, what fifa needs to do is to merge north, central, and south america all together to make it more interesting, then we should expect some upsets and it would benefit north and central too

I can't get into the spirit of this tournament (Copa centenario) for some reasons.

Very good teams on display, but what is the point when they leave out Messi, Sanchez, Suarez, and Neymar?

There's talks of making this the actual Copa America every 4 years and every time hosted in the US similar to the Gold Cup.

The Copa America “Centenario” was supposed to celebrate the past, but it might in fact herald soccer’s future. Western-hemisphere soccer officials are nearing an agreement to merge COMNEBOL’s Copa America with the CONCACAF Gold Cup and stage the tournament in the United States every four years on a permanent basis, ESPN Deportes’ Rafael Ramos Villagrana reported Monday, citing CONCACAF sources. Such a move would combine the regional championship tournaments of nations from South America with those of North and Central America and the Caribbean, and change soccer on this side of the Atlantic Ocean forever.

“Just a few more little details, like that little,” a CONCACAF source told Ramos Villlagrana, while holding his thumb and forefinger centimeters apart.

The second source told Ramos that COMNEBOL, the South American confederation, plans to announce plans for the new competition following Copa America 2016 and pitch them at its annual Congress in 2017.

“Today, they (officials) are convinced that the next Congress will approve (Copa America in the United States),” another source said.

The report cites the United States’ facilities like stadiums, hotels and transportation infrastructure, as well as the professional administration of the Gold Cup and this year’s Copa America, as selling points for the new combined tournament. The commercial opportunities of a U.S.-based event also dwarf those available in most South American countries.

The report said the discussions have been ongoing for more than a year. Officials believe such a tournament — which would do away with separate national team championships for each confederation — would be better off taking place in the U.S. because of the superior facilities, including stadiums and hotels.

Copa America 2016 currently is taking place in the United States. This year’s “Centenario” tournament was intended as a one-off event to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the first South American Championship but also serves as a laboratory for future inter-confederation cooperation.

But soccer fans in the U.S. and beyond could welcome back the Pan-American tournament time and time again — much to their own delight and at the expense of fans in South America.

Nothing new. They've always been better than Iran. Not sure why you cam up with that comparison TBH.

They should combine south and north america. Makes it more exciting and no one gives a shit about the north american tournament cuz the only good teams are mexico and usa.

Don't forget Costa Rica, espeically given their performance in the last World Cup. They were eliminated in the quarterfinals only on penalty kicks.

Honduras has a good team too.

Jamaica, Panama, and Trinadad & Tobago are solid too. CONCACAF isn't as bad as some make it out to be it is comparable with AFC and you can even make the argument that it's better.

I think the results in the World Cup, both as far as advancement and head to head results, show that they are better. But with all the heavy weights from Europe and South America I still don't think that either AFC or CONCACAF deserve more than 2 teams.

^ I think 3-4 each is fair. AFC teams sucked in the last edition but 3 out of 4 CONCAF teams advanced out of their group, Mexico should have been in the quarters with Costa Rica too they completely outplayed Netherlands.

On tonight's match - huge head scratcher that klinsman made NO changes to the starting line up. I really like this guy less and less by the day, makes absolutely no sense. This could be very dangerous the only thing giving me hope is knowing how hungry this group is for a win
