Apparently that's how it works. Again, it's nice to see some of these smaller European nations brought to light but a 24 team format is a logistic nightmare. Either keep it at 16 teams or make it 32 teams.

What a boring match this France vs Switzerland was? Also WTH was this pitch? Embarrassing for a footballing nation like France, that was a terrible pitch with so many balding spots, felt as if the game was played in the winter.

Notes worthy of mention were the 3 puma jerseys getting ripped and the ball bursting like that. Puma must be in chaos all this week over its low quality kits

Having 24 teams was honestly such a bad idea. I understand some people like seeing lesser teams be in these comps but this tournament is meant to be the pinnacle of this sport.

No it's not, it's a great idea. More teams means longer competition and most of the teams are fine. Even then the likes of Bosnia and Denmark couldn't make it despite some of the good players they have which says something.

I kinda like the 24 team format and hate it. It lowers the quality of the group stages of the Euros, but at the same time it gives the underdogs a chance to do something special. One thing thats for sure that the 24 team format in next edition of the Asian Cup will probably kill the tournament. There are already a couple of really crap teams in Asia in a 16 team tournament, so just imagine what will happen when that number extends to 24. At least in Europe the weaker teams like Iceland.... are decent, and lets not forget some teams that were even better and didn't make it.

24 team format makes it too easy to make it out of the groups. And at times you get weird match ups for the knockout round that could put 2 great teams against each other. For example even though Italy got 1st place in their group, they can have a really tough route to the final facing Croatia and Germany. Where as the 2nd and 3rd place teams will have a much easier route. This system is flawed. Either have 16 teams or 32 teams.
