Cadet World Championships
Day 1 - Greco Roman (Morning Session)
50Kg
Marz (IRI) will wrestle for BRONZE this evening vs Nuriyev (AZE). He lost in the QF to Shotadze (Geo) who was his main rival. No disgrace and another potential appearance on the podium for him.
54Kg
Mardi (IRI) lost in round of 16. No further progress through repĂȘchage.
58Kg
Moktari (IRI) will wrestle Petic (MDA) for GOLD.
63 Kg
Hosseinvand Fathi (IRI) will wrestle Stepanov (RUS) for GOLD.
100 Kg
Dadkhah Gheasem Abadi (IRI) will wrestle Kurniczak (POL) for GOLD.
NB. Medal matches will take place in evening session which will start at 17:30 (CET) and can be viewed outside of the US from: https://unitedworldwrestling.org/eve...championship-4
---------------------------------------
All in all a very satisfactory morning session in GR and a positive sign for the future.
42, 26, 69, 76 and 85 Kg will wrestle tomorrow.âI swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler.â - Socrates

Ended up with 1 Gold and 2 Silvers. No complaints about the losses in the finals.
Marz lost his bronze medal match against a good wrestler.
Our gold medal came from Hosseinvand (63) who dominated his match.
Moktari (58) did well but just didn't have enough on the day.
Abadi (100) had a close fight and was winning on criteria with 1 minute to go when he was pushed out.
We are currently 3rd (with 34 points) behind Turkey 2nd (35) and Russia 1st (42].
Here's hoping for another productive day 2 of GR. One of our guys has a potential fight against an Israeli but let's hope that it doesn't come to that.

Forouzandeh (IRI) lost in the QF but wrestled his way through the repĂȘchage to face Hunc (TUR) for BRONZE.

Day 2 - Greco Roman (Medal Session)
42Kg
Arami won GOLD!!!
46Kg
Mehrabi lost the bronze medal match by a wide margin.
69Kg
Rostami lost 4 points mid way through the first period and the bronze medal with it. It proved to a margin he could not close.
76 Kg
Forouzandeh (IRI) lost the bronze medal match. He had a 2 point scored denied on appeal in the dying seconds which would have won him the fight. A very close match which could have gone either way. In my mind losing by criteria when the points scored are penalities as opposed to as a result of a move is not the best way to win/lose (and this is not sour grapes). Something which GR needs to rethink to make the sport less controversial.
86 Kg
Forouzandeh (IRI) lost the bronze medal match. He was on the front foot for the whole match but gave up 2 early points.
------------------------
Another gold so one cannot moan but it could have been more with our guys losing all of their bronze medal matches.
As a side note our wrestlers are quite aggressive which is no bad thing but in the medal matches this was often countered resulting in 2+ points for the opponent. For anyone not familiar with GR such a margin can be decisive at the top level. That being said these guys are very young and will learn from the experience.
Overall I am greatly encouraged by the performance of the GR cadet team. Whilst the youth team secured 2 bronze medals we have many more at cadet level (2 gold and 2 silvers). The bulk of the remainder finished in the top 5.
The likes of Sourian and Noorozi are either retiring or coming towards the end of their career/prime. I suspect there will be drop in performance at the senior level but these young guys (most likely encouraged by our team at London 2012) will hopefully come through the ranks. 2020 in Japan may be a little too early but we may be able to look forward to a repeat of London 2012 at some point in the future.âI swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler.â - Socrates

So the GR team finished top of the table (2 golds, 2 silvers and 5 5th place finishes). See you all (or perhaps the few that are interested) for FS on Saturday/Sunday.

Cadet World Championships
Day 1 - Freestyle (Morning Session)
42Kg
AZIMISIYACHEGHAEI (IRI) vs. ABDURAKHMANOV (RUS) for BRONZE
Our guy lost in the first round to USA in a closely fought fight but won his repĂȘchage to make it to the 3-5 match.
50Kg
PARASTEH (IRI) vs. KOPYLOV (RUS) for GOLD
Paratesh had a hard fought first round against Cetin (TUR) winning by criteria but after that he showed control and good point scoring to make the final.
58Kg
ARUJAU (USA) vs. MAGHSOUDI (IRI) for GOLD
The balls on this kid must be huge as he came back from conceding early points in all but his SF. For those that are interested I'd recommend watching his early round fights.
69 Kg
GHOLAMI (IRI) vs. ABAKAROV (AZE) for GOLD
85 Kg
HASHEMIJOUYBARI (IRI) was dominated by SHEBZUKHOV (RUS) in the QF. The Russian didn't make the final so not chance of a medal through the repĂȘchage.
---------------------------------------
At the end of the morning session we have a chance of 3 golds and a bronze. I'd caution fans that all of our opponents in the final have looked very good but here's hoping we can bring back a gold or two.
Regardless, of what happens on day 2 I think this is testament to wrestling program that was put in place some years ago. As with GR a positive sign for the future.âI swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler.â - Socrates

Cadet World Championships
Day 1 - Freestyle (Medal Matches)
42Kg
AZIMISIYACHEGHAEI (IRI) lost to ABDURAKHMANOV (RUS) in the bronze medal match
50Kg
PARASTEH (IRI) lost to KOPYLOV (RUS) ending up with SILVER.
58Kg
MAGHSOUDI (IRI) beat ARUJAU (USA) with a score of 12-8 to win GOLD.
This was as they say in the USA a barnstormer!
What a to and fro match ... I thought the American had it after the first period but Maghsoudi scored some big points with his moves. Watch out for this guy. He gives up points but when he scores he scores BIG!
69 Kg
GHOLAMI (IRI) lost to ABAKAROV (AZE) ending up with SILVER.
Was a closely fought contest with the taller Azeri able to pass Gholami's guard to take a leg far too often resulting in TDs.
85 Kg
No medal match for as he lost in the QF. The Russian didn't make the final so not chance of a medal through the repĂȘchage.

So thats 1 GOLD and 2 SILVERS from Day 1. Personally, I had hoped for more but they faced tough opponents. No disgrace for the losing finalists.
All the guy's placed today from 1-5 looked pretty good and I think will transition well to the junior ranks.
My picks for future success would be Parasteh (who looks like an all round solid wrestler)and Maghsoudi (if he can tighten up his defense).âI swear it upon Zeus an outstanding runner cannot be the equal of an average wrestler.â - Socrates
