You are obviously not very familiar with volleyball.

Forget the world league! This is the Olympics and 1) it is played on neutral ground.
In the world league you have home and away games with the home team usually winning and away teams only occasionally pulling a win. Iran has beaten all the top teams of the world regularly, but this doesn't mean anything either here.

What we know is that individually we are on par with the rest of the world. The difference is made by the most disciplined and tactical displays.
On Wednesday we have to show a concentrated effort, and we have to gain the momentum from the beginning winning the first set. Then a win is absolutely realistic.

Plus we have the advantage that our coach is more experienced. We are set in the tactical part, only our players have to come through in the discipline section. The rest will be gheyrat.

1) that's where we lost against all the decent oppositions : Argentina, Poland, Russia

2) Maybe but we are weak mentally. We always lose when it is close. When we lead, we give up the lead very easily. And god so many bad serves.

here is what I would do,
hang a volleyball on a high sealing and turn on the light on it, that will do.

you can do it anywhere you like, living room, bed room, you name it.

A few months ago in World league we crushed Russia both away and home. I wonder if their olympics team is the same team!?

I noticed in the game against Russia quite a few of the players that were not getting game time previously were playing. Could this have been the reason why we didn't play that well?

Today's Iran-Russia match was shown live in the U.S. on NBCSN. I watched the last two sets and was very disappointed by TM's display. They were lethargic and played uninspired. Sure, they already knew they had qualified, but today's straight-set loss where they weren't even competitive is not the way you want to go into the knockout round against Italy.

Is there a reason why they look so unmotivated? These are the Olympics! It's Iranian Volleyball's first time on this global stage with the eyes of the world watching. Perhaps they can't handle the spotlight.

It was embarrassing how they showed Marouf on the sideline just chilling and keeping to himself. A real leader, even when not playing, is on the sideline charging the team up. They seem to lack unity on this team. The players barely smile, shout, or show the same level of enthusiasm and intensity that the quality teams do at this level.

While I agree we have to believe, let's not forget Canada gave Iran trouble last time we met them, and Italy by no means tried that hard in this match (perhaps hoping to land Iran in round 2). Either way, nice to see some optimism with regards to the olympics on the forum. GO IRAN!
