By saying "she will move back to Iran pretty soon" I meant she will move back there to live once she has EU citizenship.
She said she has retired from taekwando and won't be competing for anyone, at least internationally.

        Its not unusual.
For example Tahmasebi (who competes for Azerbaijan) basically lives in Iran but trains in Azerbaijan.
Her whole family is still in Iran as well.

Regardless, none of us can know for sure.
For all we know, maybe she competes for another country in 4 years.

She left because she wasn't good enough. As simple as that. Just watch, she will move back to Iran pretty soon.
Whatever her reason, who are we to question why people leave Iran to pursue their dreams?

Last I checked, most of us posting on PFDC are not living inside Iran but in the diaspora.

Guys, we can't judge individuals on the basis that they want to support themselves financially. They have lives to live. It is the system that is broken and corrupt. It shouldn't be possible to compete for other countries without either having lived there for a long time or having roots in that country. Immigrants should of course have the choice. So should people that have lived in the country for over 7-8 years. But as for now people can switch country like it was some sort of professioal sporting club.

We put people in this situation. They have invested alot in what they do and they want returns. It is up to us to decide what should be forbidden and not.

When did I question her dreams. I just said she's pragmatic.
Do people read my posts anymore?

She was initially going to be participating with the new 'Refugee Team' the IOC has setup for these Games. But Belgium granted her citizenship a few months ago.

She'll be in her thirties by the time Tokyo 2020 comes around, so chances aren't great that she'll qualify. But I wish her well. At the end of this long journey she can at least now call herself both a citizen of the EU and an Olympian.

Yes, she did as part of Belgium's team. And I bet she even shook her competitor's hand!

(to bring up the story about the Egyptian guy last week...)

Iran should introduce a law that strips the citizenship, the right to travel to Iran, for any Iranian citizen who take parts in the Olympics under another country's flag. This is different from dual citizenship under normal circumstances. Milad Beigi, for example, who lives in Iran and was developed with Iranian tax payers' money, essentially cost Iran a Gold medal at the Olympics, for his own personal gain. if there was a law against this, guys like him would think twice before joining Azerbaijan or Qatar etc. If they don't put a stop to this ASAP, you gonna have every national team reject joining another team and then eliminate fellow Iranians at major events like Olympics with whom he or she is familiar with in terms of style and play, being former teammates.

Just a question - how many of you brave young vatanparasts are planning to return to iran to study or work and contribute to your country's economic success, or fight in the military and defend Iran against threats?

Just a small question, because I assume if you are labelling some of these people vatanforoush that you have done your best to return to Iran and contribute to its success.

I think there are two different categories. As I said it in an other topic. First of all, we're all humans and have responsibilities. As far as I could understand many of the guys representing another country did it because they were not in the coach's plans. If I get the opportunity to represent another country to provide for my family I will not even think twice and it just makes sense. Now there are people who grew up out of Iran. Nowadays, at least in Europe and if not then at least in Belgium. Many people consider themselves Belgian as much as their native country so do you expect those guys to deal with the I.R and all its shit? I would be the happiest person if my son tells me that he wants to represent Iran in any sports if he ever becomes a sportsman but at the same I would never be disappointed if he decides to represent Belgium. As an Iranian I'm happy to see any hamvatan succeed even if he's representing another country
