No. Aryamehr Stadium was built for the 7th Asian games which was held in Tehran in 74.

Even if our athletes came back with zero medals I would be proud of them, just for the sake of trying & fighting for Iran despite all the BS they face (inside & outside Iran).

It's the same story every time: for 4 years the majority often doesn’t really give a shit and as soon as the Olympics start, we expect them to get us medals & do well. The Olympic is over now, watch how we AGIAN will barley do anything to support our athletes (facilities, management,) or fight the obvious corruption and anti-Iranian officials.... but as soon as the next big tournament starts we blindly demand medals. We know about the problems, every athlete constantly points out what we lack before the Olympics, during the Olympics and after the Olympics, but we never ever change something. This goes back to the federation (IR), but mostly also to us because we don’t put enough pressure on them! Instead some of us ignorantly blame the athletes...

We performed well in Weightlifting and Freestyle Wrestling.
We performed bad in Taekwondo and Greco-Roman Wrestling.

Overall, our performance was Average. The amount of Medals we got (3 Gold, 1 Silver, 4 Bronze) was a realistic thing.

However, we had the potential to have double-digit medals if we didn't have some bad luck. We had some bad luck and we could have had 6 Gold Medals and make the Top 15 in the rankings.

But in the end, I'm satisfied with the result.

Shah had made a bid to host the 1984 Olympic Games, but Iran withdrew the bid after the Revolution. So Los Angeles was automatically chosen as the hosts, because that was the only other bid apart from Tehran.

Tehran would have easily won, because Tehran had secured the vote of the Eastern Block as well as the non-aligned countries and some Western countries too.

Thanks to the Islamic republic, we finished below the likes of Kenya, Cuba, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan.

And thanks to turkey and bahrein kenya didn't have more medals.
You are crazy or what, Kenya is the best of the world in marathon, 1500m etc... like jamaica in sprint
Cuba in boxing and uzb/Kazakhstan are ex Soviet union and filled with Russians.

The worst is that without the jury bias and/or some of our athlete incredible collabse we would have be in front of them.

And thanks to swiss, Argentina poland Denmark sweden etc.. government, all of them finish behind IR

We were projected to win at least 15 medals, 5-10 Golds by various sources. We underperformed badly. Partially because of mental weakness, partially because of bad luck, and partially because of questionable officiating against our athletes.

yup.. plenty of bronze in ur average bathroom fixtures..

Do you guys have a link to open letter written to head of taekwondo federation, Pooladgar by Mehmandoust. They called him out as he referred to them as traitor (basically said he's not from same country as them) .. here it is http://www.varzesh3.com/news/1352125/%D9%BE%D8%A7%D8%B3%D8%AE-%D8%AA%D9%86%D8%AF-%D9%85%D8%B2%D8%AF%D9%88%D8%B1-%D8%A8%D9%87-%D9%BE%D9%88%D9%84%D8%A7%D8%AF%DA%AF%D8%B1

Look at his resume and tell me he's fit to run that shop http://www.iritf.org.ir/dit_fl.asp?id=460

My bad, Iran's bid was indeed for 1984 not 1988. Tks everyone for correcting me.

I used to like Mehmandoust, but I've come to the conclusion that he is a lying dirty scumbag. The issue here is not the fact that he is the manager of another team and doing his job. He should be praised for that. The issue, which he is evading in his open letter, is the fact that he has been acting as Azerbaijan's "talent agent" to convince various Iranian TDK players to change their nationality and join Azerbaijan. This is not something a respectable coach would do , let alone one who claims to be vatandoust etc. He is just after money, and that's all he cares about. He has no ethics whatsoever.

Mehmandoust is a veteran of the Iran-Iraq war and a "Janbaz" so for that he deserves our respect.
His family life has also been very sad the past few years. He's had a truly hard life.

It is a shame that he is a talent agent for the Azeris though.

i dont see a problem in that, the issue is alot of sport people wont get the chance to go world or olympics, and have to change nationality to go, even if the coach dont convince them they will get offeres

                                You summed up everything here.
Respect for what he has done earlier, sadness about how they treated him in 2011 and hard days he had then, but shame to him for bringing some of the best Iranian TKDs into a foreign team. Same story with Kheyrabadi in AZE Greco Wrestling, he is certainly not stranger to Sabah Shariati's arrival, both being from Sanandaj.
