    Rio Paralympics 2016 [Reports, News]

Opened a thread for the Paralympics

Iran took 79 athletes and ranked 11th in 2012 with 10 gold, 7 silver, 7 bronze.

This time there are 93 competitors! With 9 more competitors in athletics, it should be a good tally for Iran. Let's see if Iran can break into the top 10 this time!

I fear it won't be the case, Taroomi and Rezaian will be participating (don't want to disrespect paralympics athlete, but I don't even know in which sport they could be good there).

Iran has actually brought an incredible amount of 110 athletes this time! This is partly due to Russia being banned entirely from 2016 Paralympics. Therefore, instead of 93 athletes we now have 110.

That is actually one of the highest amount of athletes for a country. Only 12 other countries have more athletes:

                China 308
                Brazil 288
                United States 271
                Great Britain 251
                Australia 168
                Ukraine 168
                Germany 155
                Canada 151
                Japan 132
                France 123
                Netherlands 115
                Spain 113
                Iran 110
                Italy 97
                Poland 90
                Argentina 84
                Turkey 81
                South Korea 80
                ...

This is very good. We are as good as the first world countries when it comes to Paralympics.

A Top 10 finish for Iran is a realistic goal! Of course it won't be easy, but it's possible.

In 2012 Paralympics Iran was ranked 11th.

Best wishes to Iranian athletes. Some of these athletes are Iraq war veterans. They deserve our support.
