So now how do we explain this in broader context of other sport failings?
Indeed, success is possible for us at high levels of international sport, even with iranian coaches and even with shitty IR... there is simply too big of a population with too much interest and talent in these sports to still not have decent chance of success.
One thing that is interesting is the weight of expectation. Maybe our athletes from mental perspective have the biggest struggles...under criticism, burden of being expected to produce, etc they tend to fail. Then when you least expect it/without much media attention, they have successes (multiple u17 sides in football, in group of death with CQ, etc)

We have another world championship team at this level but it hasn’t translated to senior level success.
The talent, knowledge and experience is almost there. They need to believe in themselves and shut out the idiots who know nothing about volleyball but shit on then the moment they lost one set.
It’s the best run sport in Iran by far.
Imagine our football was at a level where we were so far ahead we were only getting upset because we couldn’t beat the top 6 consistently.

That's true the job done in volleyball is wonderful as a whole. The good job stopped when they stopped hiring high profile foreign coach for TM.

Volleyball TM doesn’t need a foreign coach. This isn’t football where we don’t have most of the elements for sustainable development.
In volleyball we have talent, knowledge, and experience. Belief is important. They need to apply it but we need a master motivator/manager of emotions more than anything, regardless of nationality.
