Vafaei beat his Egyptian opponent 10-1 in first round of World Championship qualifier and with this he secured his place for the next year World Snooker Tour. and since Soheil Vahedi also won the world amateur championship recently, we will have two players in the professional tour for the next season.

Vafaei has to win two more matches to make history and qualifies for the main draw for the very first time.

Vafaei lost 8-6 to Ford and got eliminated from the World Championship, thsi is the end of the season for him

that was pity he was leading most of the match but all of a sudden started to miss easy shots in last frames. I think he is not used to play long matches like this, he was tired mentally.

What a grounded and sincere young man. Great interview describing his difficult road with visa issues and the recent passing of his grandmother.

He qualified for the World Championships today with a 10-9 win. Only the top 16 World ranked players qualify automatically so a good achievement already here.

Soheil Vahedi was knocked out in one of the earlier qualifying rounds so he didn’t make it to the main draw.
Edit - Vafaei is the first Iranian player to ever participate in the final stages of the World Championship.

“I’m so happy I have made my people proud,” said Vafaei. “I was so nervous today, all of my body was shaking. I was eating a lot of chocolate to try to calm myself down but it wasn’t working! I forgot how to hold the cue. I promise I will play better than that at the Crucible, I can’t wait to get there. Thank you to everyone who has supported me, I will try my best to be a people’s champion.”

Love this guy. So down to earth. But someone should let him know chocolate has caffeine and won’t help with his tremors!
