Can one of our more knowledgeable members on wrestling provide a breakdown of how intense will this competition be? Are the teams sending their best wrestlers or are a lot of the wrestlers coming 2nd and 3rd tier wrestlers from their countries? How good is Iran's team? What are Iran's chances of winning this competition?

World Cup in general is a second tier competition. some countries take it serious and some not. right now I have rosters for 5 teams. still no idea about Azerbaijan, Georgia and Mongolia.
Iran and USA are participating with almost their best available team. I think Iran only misses Reza Yazdani, the rest of our top wrestlers will wrestle here. unlike other years Turkey is also sending a very good team, almost their A team with only two exception Soner Demirtas (Olympic bronze medalist) and Taha Akgul (Olympic champion) ,they have 3 naturalized very good Russian wrestlers in their squad. I believe even without those 2 Olympic medalists Turkey still has a chance to upset Iran in group round.
for Russia, they are sending a good team, but not even their 2nd team, maybe 3rd or 4th. mostly Yarygin tournament bronze and silver medalists including 2012 Olympic Champion Jamal Otarsultanov. I don't think this Russia can win the other group we must probably won't face them in this tournament.

Iran is the clear favorite for the title with home crowd. but there are some weak weights for Iran. specially 74 and 97. also we don't know about the current shape of our Olympic medalists, Komeil Ghasemi and Hassan Rahimi didn't wrestle after the Olympics. (Rahimi wrestled once at the world club cup and was far from convincing) and with Hassan Yazdani moving up to 86 we have 4 very good wrestlers in this weight (Yazdani, Karimi, Goleij and Ebrahimi) but nobody at 74 !

Freestyle Thursday 16th Feb - Friday 17th Feb

          GROUP A:
          IRAN
          TURKEY
          INDIA
          MONGOLIA

          GROUP B
          RUSSIA
          AZARBAJEDJAN
          USA
          GEORGIA

Iran should go to final as head of Group A, and looking at Group B anyone can be Iran opponents at the final bout.
          Tough Group B...

now we have complete rosters of all 8 teams. I have to say most of them take the event seriously except Russia of course.

Azerbaijan is sending a very good team, I think they only miss Togrul Asgarov, the rest of their top wrestlers including Haji Aliyev, Jabrail Hasanov and Sharif Sharifov will be here. Georgian team is also very good but not complete. I see Petriashvili in their squad but still they miss some of their best wrestlers here. I think group B will be between USA and Azerbaijan but you can't underestimate Russia at all, even this Russia team !

in our group Mongolia, India and Turkey they are all sending their best team but Indian team is quite weak after some of ther top wrestlers retired after the Olympics. Mongolia is good but they can't be a threat. Turkey is our only opponent here in this group with 3 top Russian naturalized wrestlers.

Moved to Abadan. It makes more sense to see a Greco-Roman competition in the only province in Iran where it is more popular than Freestyle.

                On another note:
                Great news from FILA/UWW.
They have provided only streaming of all matches of last OG so everyone can watch robberies again and again.

Group B is by far the tougher group. Russia, USA and Azerbaijan all have a shot at the final.

Iran will most likely win Group A and be in the final.

Of course I hope the final will be USA vs Iran. Nothing brings up the nationalism for Iranzamin more than playing against the Satan on our own soil and in our own national sport.

1st, except that this is not a softball or a Tennis game, where the "play" against eachother! ITS WRESTLING, where they fight.

2nd, to most Iranians, except the IR thugs, US is not the great satan, if anything they regard US as a decent wrestling team, and they like to win the fight for their Gheyrat reasons.

I personally prefer Iran vs Russia in the final bout, but I am fine with Iran vs US too.

They don't get that kind of reception anywhere else in the world.
