Why no one wants to host a World Cup or Olympics anymore

Besides countries that have enough money to do what they want (PGCC, China...), no reasonable country wants to host these types of events.

The only country that has the infrastructure for these sorts of events and actually would use and maintain them is the United States and maybe Germany and France.

Look what's happened to all the Olympic infrastructure in Rio..

Very true. It has had some good outcomes for example Athens built a metro system because of that but it also destroyed the economies of Greece and Brazil. But it was the opposite for London. The infamous East London has turned into something cool because of the Olympics.
