Our track and field is in terrible situation now with a random guy (former TV commentator) as the federation president.

I think the only "positive' this summer was Ali Khadivar at 400m who broke the national record. our best 2016 athlete Taftian was disappointing with his new French coach, Haddadi was terrible in Baku Islamic Games losing to an Iraqi guy.

they are expecting 3-5 medals here, which is a bit optimistic IMO, hopefully Haddadi can repeat his gold medal here. he has to show everybody (including himself) that he is not done yet. Haddadi, Samimi, Taftian, Khadivar and Ghanbarzadeh are our best chances here.

Ehsan Haddadi won the gold medal with a good record of 64.54. the last time he threw the discus longer than this in a serious competition was 3 years ago. this is a good result for him.

this is his 5th Asian title and if we consider Asian Games titles, this is his 8th ! he won the Asain title from 2005 to 2011 but didn't participate in 2013 and 2015.

Today we had two surprising medals and Hassan Tafian did great to win the Asian title.

Moslem Niadoust won a surprising bronze medal in 1500m, since Sajjad Moradi we were very weak in middle distance runs.

but we had a big big surprise in shot put. Ali Samari improved his PB by 60cm !!!! to win the gold medal . 19.80 is a very good result in Asian standards.

Hassan Taftian also won the gold with a good result beating both African runners of Qatar. !

3 gold and a bronze is already a very good result for our athletics. have to say I'm very surprised for these results. gave us hope a year before the Asian Games in Indonesia.

on other hand Ali Khadivar was disappointing in the final, his SF record was much better and could give him the gold medal. even though I guess the weather situation was very bad for the final.

Great news especially in the 100 m and strength events.
How is India getting so many medals?

Also who designed the events website?
It looks like something on the internet from 1995.

This website is hopeless, there are so much confusion between athletes.
Guy is 2nd position is not Femi Ogunode obviously but the other Qatari athlete.

And in that case it is a very weak and unexpected result from him, 2 years ago he won with 9.91.
About Taftian, he suddently improved his time for final even though it is still weak record and in previous editions this time wouldn't be enough even for bronze.
Bad conditions cannot only explain this.

This gold is unexpected because of Taftian's bad records of this year but he was also lucky that top Asian performers were not there (3 from Japan, 2 from China and 1 Korea) as they all run under 10.10 this year but have probably prefered to continue the meetings season in Europe and N.America.

Good surprises in Shot Put and 1500m. We needed someone in middle distance again after all these years.
India is taking everything on distances except sprint. Not really a surprise, from early 2010' they were the best if it was not for all these imports for Qatar, Bahrain, UAE and now with downfall of Saudi on long and middle distances India can take it all. Weather conditions have also certainly helped them.

But we shouldn't lie to ourselves, our results of today were mostly surprises. We are by far behind all these countries, specially India which invests a lot on this sport while in Iran athletes practising any of the 3 basic sports (Athletics, Swimming, Gymnastics) have to deal with 3rd world countries condition with 0 support as there is 0 money.

That's what u get after years of dallals and dozd as Fed. President.
At least the current president tries to improve things, most importantly the basic structures in provinces for age categories even though there is no money support. But at least he cares about Athletics.
