After so many years Abedini is not our #1 anymore, per new world ranking Pakdaman is 15th, Abedini 17th, Rahbari 30th and Fotouhi 42nd. and if we consider top 10 in Asia, there are 6 Koreans and 4 Iranians !

top 16 in the world always get a direct entry into the main draw in World Cup / Grand Prix / World Champs. life will be harder for Abedini , now he hast to start from the group round in future tournaments.

Now we have the complete draw for team Sabre for Tomorrow

Round of 32: vs Saudi Arabia
Round of 16: vs Great Britain (or Colombia)
Quarterfinals: vs Hungary (or Belarus)

no problem with the Saudis , GB will be a decent opponent still we are the clear favorite (not a sure thing though) to face Hungary in QF. apparently out of all top teams in the world Hungary is the only team never had been beaten by Iran before ! I secretly hope Belarus upset Hungary in pre-quarterfinal lol

Even though I hope that we will beat them, I think that this step is too high.
We would have more chances against Italy or Russia.
But to beat Hungary we will need everyone at its best. Like last year competition, with Rahbari instead of Baher.

Iran vs Hungary Quarterfinal.
Hungary got almost eliminated by Belarus in previous round, but still they are huge favourites.
Iran beat GB quite easily.
Let's hope that the guys will make big upset.

We were behind by 35 to 30 and now we are up by 40 to 39 thanks to him.

Now Ali vs Szilagyi.
Pakdaman has been very good until now, and Szilagyi is not at his usual level. Everything is possible.

well I guess that was a big mistake not putting Abedini for the last match, despite losing on Friday he is still our best player.

Iran beat France and Romania to finish 5th, still a very good result and I think we will keep the 5th place in the world ranking. this is important to stay high the WR, because it helps to have easier opponent before the QF and keep that top place. team sabre will be an Olympic event in Tokyo

unlike Hungary match, Pakdaman did great in both matches and won last matches against Anstett and Dolniceanu, while Abedini gave up huge leads both times ! well Pakdaman lost to the same guy Anstett in individual event, that was a bit of a revenge for him

Well, you certainly know that this Anstett guy was on drugs or something today, earlier on he won his relay against one German fencer by 22 to 4 !!!

Anyway, big congrats to these guys for their astonishing performances year after year under miserable conditions at home.
Abedini wasn't at his best level this year (compared to 2015 and 2016), and he even missed some World Cups because he was complaining about situation in fencing, so preparation wasn't perfect for him and he would have probably a better ranking and even better draw in individual event otherwise.
Also, as usual, we didn't participated at all major events in the world tour. The day we will have decent support with this team and this coach, then even gold will be realistic.

What about Pakdaman, he simply reached top level now. I just hope that Rahbari will also join him soon as he has certainly the potential, but he needs more experience on world tour and then our team will be really fantastic.

I thought Iran will keep the 5th place but even better Iran is now 4th in the world ranking. behind Korea, Italy and Hungary.
