all iranians had bye in the 1st round of playoffs. pakdaman won 15-3 over singp but rahbari lost a hearbreaker 15-14 to arg in last 64
The guy which eliminated 15 to 14 Rahbari just eliminated seed #3 from USA, Olympic Silver medallist.

Pakdaman was brilliant against Berre from Italy. Now tough match against ex world champion Yakimenko.

              WOW !
              Mashallah Ali Pakdaman.

He came back from 14-11 to 14-15 to win and reach 1/8.
He beat 2 very good fencers on 2 consecutive matches.
Only if he could show same level in preliminary round to have an easier draw.
He will now face Argentinian guy who beat Rahbari and Homer (WR 3) from USA.

Actually he already won against this guy and some other top fencers in the past, but never in World Championships.

This is Fencing, nothing is guaranteed, sometimes just one touch determines the winner. can't complain about Abedini because Pakdaman won in the same way after being down 14-11. Abedini will lose a lot of places in the world ranking since his Olympic 4th place will be erased after this tournament.

as far as I remember we had top 16 finish in World Championships before , (Mohammad Rezaei in epee) hope he can go one step further here , or maybe two lol

mojtaba lost his head and focus in the end. so heartbreaking. i think pakdaman looks strong for olympics but mojtaba with all these unreal hearbreaks and his age he might have a tough time for olympics

                          Stupid loss for Mojtaba.

He lost his nerves few times when he should keep calm, it is uncommon for him.
The match was really on his side, what a pitty !
He has showed difficulties against young fencers recently.
His archival Kim Jungwhan has been also eliminated by Israel.

Pakdaman has good draw, all rivals are good but it today is his chance, such draw won't happen always.
Argentinian guy is dark horse of the tournament, French fencers in 1/4 are good but certainly beatable (Abedini won one of the those guys in 1/4 of OG last year).
