just for info, Iran is represented by U23 team which is a stupid decision IMO, winning the continental title is prestigious enough , specially right now after the World League failure. and Iran had won the title only twice. not 10 or 20 times.

even though our U23 team beat China in a friendly and won't be a pushover here.

nope, Kolakovic didn't release him from the senior team.

in case you are interested, Our federation didn't send the senior team to the Asian Championship because they think "Asia is too small for us"
and the senior team right now is training for the World Championship Qualifier "against Asian teams" !!!

so in fact we are afraid of Asian teams which is fine, but we are just too arrogant/stupid to not accept that.

absolutely

to me the downhill of our volleyball started from 2015 when we used our B team for the Asian Championship in Tehran, they claimed Asia is small and we want to save our A team for the World Cup and we know what happened at the World Cup. our players were arrogant and we were a miserable team. we won the Asian Champs only twice and we claim we are the king of Asia ! and they forget we beat China in Olympic qualifier only 3-2 and narrowly.

we are still the best team in Asia but not by a big margin anymore, this year Australia, China and Japan they all played well at the World League level 2. while we finished 11th ! Japan finished 14th (2nd in Level 2) . not a big gap at all. for being a world class team we have to dominate our own continent first. just look at Brazil's record at the South American Championship ! they won 30 out of 31 tournaments !!! and they still take the tournament serious, that's their mentality and that's why they are a great team.

to me that was a good idea to rest some key players like Marouf and Mousavi, they were tired and not motivated but this could be a great opportunity for some younger players like Manavinejad or Salafzoon.

Our U23 team is doing great. beating Chinese Tapei 3-0 is a great result for this team. who knows maybe they even finih on the podium ! they have to beat either China or Australia to avoid JPN/KOR in quarterfinal

Looks like Iran's Volleyball Federation just doesn't care about the Asian Championship. In the last edition they sent the B team. This time they sent the u23 team.

It's a shame really, because we could easily collect these titles every 2 years.
