Beautiful news. Hopefully these guys don't get injured 2 months before the Olympics as it seems all our weightlifters do!

It was not an official world record. It was not an official meet and his bodyweight for this meet was 97kg. The world record is for the 94kg weight class. He will have a good chance to officially break it at worlds though

He lost 30kg? That's an insane amount, even for someone banned.

No. That portion of my response was referring to Sohrab Moradi.

The 253 by AliHosseini is very impressive, but it just makes Moradi's 240 C&J from a couple days ago a crazy achievement.

Imagine, two weight classes below, at least 30kgs lighter in body weight, yet Moradi is only C&J'ing 13 kgs less than his heavyweight compatriot.

You have to love Moradi's technique on these PB lifts as well. It's like something out of the Chinese book of weightlifting.

He is literally my only idol.

No he meant sohrab Moradi, who gained 3 kgs from 94 to 97.

What a sad day it was when Ali Hosseini was forcibly doped and forced to fake injury before world champs 8 years ago. He could have easily broken all records before he was 23 as he was already nearing Reza zadeh's record back then. Too bad Rezazadeh and Ayan ruined his life. I am glad now he is back. Better late than never.

By the way Behdad Salimi or lets say Iran is no longer world record holder in 105+kgs Snatch.
Lasha Talakhadze broke Salimi's Snatch record in April this year at the 2017 European Championship and the Total he broke at Rio Olympics.

Currently Iran is holding the following World Records
85 kgs Category: C&J 220 kgs Kianush Rostami.
85 kgs Category: Total 396 kgs Kianush Rostami.
94 kgs Category: Total 413 kgs Sohrab Moradi.
105+ kgs Category: C&J 263 kgs Hossein Rezazadeh.

You can read the details in the below links. In short, Rezazadeh did not want his record to be broken and at the same time head of international weightlifting federation wanted the Korean guy to be the champion of 2009 world champs. They forced Hosseini to fake injury the night before the competition and at the same period they did not let him train on his own and use his own food/drink. They inserted doping material into his food and ruined his future.

Not 100% but I believe there is truth in this. we heard so many rumors about this but I can't confirm them

but IWF is corrupt as hell. that's for sure. I'm not sure if you guys are old enough to remember 2000 Sydney Olympics, back then Shahin Nassirinia was Iran's best chance for the gold, but in the competition he came up for his 1st lift, apparently hurt his elbow and left the competition, leaving it for Pyrros Dymas to win his 3rd Olympic title. after so many years we found out the truth, Nasirina was healthy but IWF forced him to fake an injury like that. he was warned to pull out otherwise they would disqualify the whole Iranian team, he did as told and they "let" Tavakkoli and Rezazadeh won two historical gold medals for Iran.

people believe Alihosseini's case was something like that, but who knows, we never know for sure. but that Korean guy who won the gold in 2009 never won anything else in his career.

Alihosseini is from the same city as Rezazadeh, his father is a coach there and had personal problems with Rezazadeh , at the time he was the IRIWF president and Alihosseini was setting incredible records in his hometown of Ardabil, his father begged the federation to let him train in his own town because he claimed "he doesn't trust some people in the federation" they forced him to join the national camp and "this" happened. he was going to break Rezazadeh's records, who knows, I don't believe Rezazadeh himself was involved there though.

Wow I had never heard of these events but then again I am not very knowledgeable about the sport.

These conspiracy theories seem really wild and I am here with an open mind. My question is what is to gain when our best gold medal shots are forced to "fake" injuries. Is it for Rezazzadeh to keep his world record? For example, why would IWF threaten to disqualify the whole team if Nassirinia didn't fake an injury?

This all seems to wild. Losing gold medals for the sake of one person?
